Allahabad University, Office of VC, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India.
Even thousands of years before the British, Prayagraj was the center of education, as students received philosophy and Vedic education in the ashram of Rishi Bharadwaj. The architect of this college was the famous British architect William Emerson who designed many buildings apart from All Saints Cathedral.
The structure reflects the Indo-Saracenic style with glimpses of Indian and Mughal architecture. The magnificent tower is surrounded by huge domes and arched corridors, hanging balconies reflects the grandeur of this educational institution. The main hall of the college is said to be very attractive and ornate. The stained glass and mosaic work adds to its richness. This educational institution was inaugurated in 1873 by Lord Northbrook, the Governor-General of India. In the British Raj, the University of Allahabad was established as the fifth oldest university in India. The main administrative building was completed later, which was inaugurated in 1912 by Sir John Hewett, the then Lieutenant Governor of the province. One of the great works of Prayagraj University is the excavation work in Koshambi by the Department of Ancient History. Department of Science, Economics, arts are the most popular educational branches.
I could not visit this university well as everyone was busy in preparations for Holi festival. It is also called the Oxford of Northern Province and considered one of the reputed Institution.
This renowned University produced many notable personalities like Chandra Shekhar who was 8th PM, Zakir Hossain 3rd President of India etc and awarded honorary degrees to many other notable personalities.
