Hi everyone!
Today I want to tell you what being a local guide means to me. I haven’t been one for too long, I actually found out I am a local guide casually, thanks to all the directions I systematically leave on Google during my travels: up until now, I’ve basically been an “unaware” local guide.
These past few days I’ve checked, with a lot of interest, some of the other guides’ profiles on Google and I found out I’m a part of a big community: being a member of something so great and selfless makes me feel really proud and satisfied with what I do.
I’m sure that every single one of us is important in this program; in fact, every contribution we can give, small or big, is fundamental to help people who seek advices or information about places to visit: together we have a huge power.
For a tourist it’s important to know which one is the best pizza in Rome or the most delicious paella in Madrid, just like it’s important to know where to find a clean, affordable environment to sleep.
Personally, I like to leave suggestions on particular places, something you’d hardly find on regular touristic guides, such as small unknown churches, clubs for the young generation that are not too famous or talked about but that are really characteristic and that make you completely immerse in the local atmosphere and understand the culture.
When I was little and traveling around Italy, I’ve developed the ability to observe the places that surrounded me; my parents and the education they gave me had a significant part in this, they gave me a strong critical sense in admiring churches, squares and places in general.
I think that documenting our experiences, enriching them with our personal culture, is really important to help other people not to commit our same mistakes and, above all, to give other tourists the privilege to have more enchanting and complete experiences in the same places we visited.
To sum things up, the meaning of this program for me is cohesion, sense of belonging and to help those who want to travel.
