The Nilgiri mountain railway was built by british in the year 1908 . This heritage train runs between mettupalayam on the foothills of the blue mountain and goes up to Ooty . One can enjoy the ride by seeing river , streams , hills , the ghats , birds , elephants , wild animals ( all based on luck ) .Breath taking experience of bridges , small tunnels , tea plantations , vegetable farms ( potato farm , carrot , raddish , jack fruits etc ) One can see Giant malabar squirrel , Great horn bills , Hill myna , emerald dove , malabar laughing thrush , sambar deer , spotted deer, and lot more you will be riding through the lush green forest mostly a misty climate . One should and must go to Ooty in this NMR nilgiri mountain railway . Ensure your booking well in advance . Booking is a bit tough . This train contains a first class couch and few reserved couches and some little unreserved seats too . One can experience a life time ride .
