Uina gorge

During the week of mid august vacation, I visited the Uina gorge by lonely. The Uina river is a tributary of Inn, tributary of Danube. The border between Italy and Swiss is the Slingia pass and here the water is very indecise were to descent. A large mountains marsh, where the cows marching with many diffuculties, is the point of collection of the waters coming from the oldest morainic cirques, it’s the Uina river source. More than 110 years ago, a new alpine refuge was builded near Slingia pass, upper the waterfall, wieving on Venosta valley (Italy), but from Swiss there was a difficult path. The Swiss built a new path carved into the rock. Since there were few checks by the gendarmes, it became during and after the world wars, a point of passage for smuggled goods, tobacco, cigarettes, food, so much so that it took the name of “Smugglers’ Path”. Now it is a beautiful path to do on foot and for the bravest even in MTB, but in some places you have to load the bike on your shoulders. It is a protected path with ropes and parapets but you have to be very careful all the same, the jump in some points is about 400 meters and even more!
The daily journey is been 22 km by feet in 6 hours. I put some photos and cliphttps://youtu.be/HDJCO78FODA
with a live session of Alpenhornes recorded by me in Swiss on the lake Lai da Rims. Enjoy!

Hello @plavarda

You are in the nice journey again.!

Nice landscape, breathtaking view on the mountain and beautiful waterfall!

I suppose, it is difficult to go 22km a day on foot.

How many days your trip in the mountains was?

Did you have a shot rest in the mountains in camp?

How about food in your trip?

I ask some questions, because it is interesting for me.

Best regards,

Inna

Dear Paolo, @plavarda

Really nice post with photos, what a perfect place Slingia and Venosta valley! :+1: !I watch this places on the map and in Wikipedia. It is South Tirol! It is great!

I like these places very much, they are perfect not only in summer, but in winter, because it is ski resort.

I dreamed to visit South Tirol.

I visit some places in Austria, they are so picturesque .,but I have never been in such places in Italy.

Recently I watched video about Trentino Alto Adige on the channel Matteo from Italy.

He told about beautiful places in this region. It is also South Tirol.

Thank you that you tell us about Italy, I admire how many beautiful places there are!!!

My best regards to Mariacristina.

Dear Inna @helga19 every year I spend a week in Alto Adige, Slingia. There is a beautiful and small hotel called Anigglhof. I spent here the first week in August 1990, it’s very quiet and it’s easy to remain solitary, farway from noise and traffic, and from the invasion of this days in Dolomite mountains more famous. Alto Adige or South Tirol as the inhabitants love to say. It’s a part of Italy with a minority population of German language. Clearly the land is in italian territory geographically but the traditions and also the folks are german. After the 1 mondial war it’s became Italia, but as You can understand, there was many difficulties and claims for freedom. Slingia is the last village, very high and near to border. The traditions here are very strong, and some time, only young people speak a little italian.
For skying there are many structures as Watles mount, and also Slingia is a perfect site for nordic skiing.
Traditional dishes, game, eggs and speck and potatoes are served in the mountain huts, with big glasses of beer, but also the water is very good (for me) :slightly_smiling_face:
As regard the path of 22 km it’s long but not very hard, and also the difference in height was not prohibitives. We parked at the chairlift and overcame the greatest difference in height with it, then at high altitude we reached the Sesvenna refuge and then I alone continued to the Uina gorge. On the way back a bit of a climb to return to the refuge and then all the way down and with a second car we recovered the car left at the start of the chairlift.
Ciao Inna also from Mariacristina!!!
A little clip for you from Slingia (without translation sorry)

Ciao @plavarda ,

Ciao e grazie!
