Clogs are wooden shoes very famous in the Netherlands. They are one of the Typical Dutch Culture found every corner and cranny of the country. The old craft of clog maker has almost disappeared but however, 3 million clogs are made annually mainly for the tourists industry. In General, in the past you could see from which part of the country a clog came from because each region has it’s own characteristics.
The wooden shoe is part of the typcal Dutch society and very popular objects for tourist.
When I was a child, we made holidays in the Netherlands and as my parents did buy it for my two brothers and myself, we did a competition, who could wear it the longest…
Imagine how our feeds did look after running and playing…
Great post @Stanucious ! As a military “brat” I can remember (although not fondly, which I will explain) being in Germany and owning a pair of clogs that were red in color with beautiful markings carved on the sides. While beautiful, they were ABSOLUTELY the most uncomfortable shoe I had ever worn!
Hi @Stanucious I lived in the Netherlands for 7 years and worked as a nurse. I remember arriving for my night shift and one of my colleagues that was leaving had clogs on. I asked :" Can I try them on?" And I must say, I found them comfortable. I do wish I had a pair, because wearing them in South Africa would probably make the news!
Ohh really? Anyway i know many people that says its uncomfortable and many also who says it’s comfortable. So i think it depends on individual. Thanks for your time
@Stanucious very nice post my friend! and yes, they are worldwide popular and part of dutch heritage! here in Peru they are called “zapatos suecos”. thanks for sharing!
Yeah, I have heard about the wooden shoes in Discovery Channel.
Wooden shoes are really good for feet as they made up of woods and wood keeps our feet cool in summer and warm in winters it’s a key to happy feet hehe.
These shoes are made up of a single piece of wood.
@Stanucious thank you so much for this post it is very helpful.
