Turning miles into smiles

Makli Necropolis:

Fast Facts:

Distance From Karachi - 101 Km towards east.

Total Area - over 9 sq. Km.

Makli Hills, Thatta, is full of monuments as far as one can see, most of the monuments are stark reminder of the dedicated craftsmanship and construction prowess of the Mughals. Most walls have niche and arches, the Arabic calligraphy, geometric and floral ornamentation carved to the highest level of excellence. are quiet unique. Needless to say, thousands of artisans must have been engaged to create the work of art on a sq. Km. canvas.

Makli is the one of those places which always attracts me to itself and I used to travel miles to explore something new on my each visit and yet it is not fully covered even after 4 trips.

Makli necropolis is one of the most attractive place I have ever been as it is claimed to be second largest graveyard which exists and there something happening there always hence called Living Necropolis.

History preserved there is of three historical eras, i.e. Mughals, Tarkhans and Summa Dynasty. It is one of the places which holds so much which is not even explored at yet.

Heritage is one of the most valuable asset of Pakistan and went there again to explore it more. As always the cemetery offered new spots to click and now let the pictures speak.

Do leave a comment if you like and would also like to welcome questions by those who wish to visit the site.

Thank you.

The archaeology Department facilitates the visitors with necessary facilities like rest house, club cars for an assisted tour of the Necropolis.

This is video link of Makli and Shahjhani Mosque and hope you will find it interesting as well.

Note: My videos are purely non-commercial and please feel free in sharing.

Briefly it’s a must visit place and one will surely step out smiling after getting the learning of the wonderful heritage site.

Please feel free in asking any question regarding the place and would love to be a help if needed.

Without a doubt, Pakistan has a lot to offer to the world which only needs some promotion which we are trying to do on individual and collective level.
