I have no idea where to put this. I did a search for the Local Guides Support group - but only got a canned help page.
What’s interesting is that I was looking for a way to contact a specific local guide - and found dozens and dozens of questions but I don’t believe it is officially in the FAQ? Would be nice to see: How to contact Local Guide if a member of this group. How to contact a local guide if not a member of this group. I also found the questions in Help Desk and General Discussion - yet today I cannot find those two groups to post. What am I missing?
I’m looking for a specific page to ask about inappropriate Guides, Reviews, Pictures, etc.
Lately, I’ve been following this particular guide who is soaring and leveling up.
He is currently a Level 9. I’m aghast at his rating - when I first noticed his pins on Maps - He was a 5, I think - and he was pinning “Historical Sites” but using a website that I believe might be his - as the website address on these pins. He not only misspells the names, but he, well, kinda makes them up. For example, he puts the word “historical” in the title. I’m pretty sure most of them do not have that word in their title - and there is a category to use for this. But I’m not even sure if the names are right, for example, he identifies a historical marker - instead of the historic place: Slickville Tile Works Historical Marker - or he sometimes uses the title “Historical Marker”. It should be Slickville Tile Works and somewhere in the edits - showing it’s no longer open or has anything to view, along with the category historical place. He puts a link to another web page that tracks historical landmarks: hmdb.com and then writes a lengthy review that he paraphrased from the hmdb site. It’s not a review - it’s just an “about” the site. If anything, that should be placed into the historical marker’s description - but he’d have to be the owner of the pinned site to do that. If anything, his review should contain that there are no longer any buildings, etc on site to view. Just the marker.
For a while there I thought he was just promoting a local website. Then I thought he was promoting himself. Whatever he is doing - he is not doing it right.
Another thing he does is write (long) reviews for MANY UA Labor union buildings/meeting places. Instead of a review - he writes a lengthy description of the Union itself. No information on whether it’s a great place or a rotten place or something in between. Most of what he writes looks as though it could be copied and pasted from that particular UA website or Facebook page - more of an “Our Mission Statement” kinda thing.
P.S. Also why can’t I add “general discussion” or “Help Desk” as a tag to this post?
1/30//2022 - this post was edited for both clarity (I wish) and to remove personal identifying data.
Thank you. I cannot report his entire profile, because as far as I understand it, I need the “app” on a phone to do this? My phone has been offline for a week now.
Yes, I started going through and reporting “duplicates” “does not exist” for locations, for photos “duplicates” or inappropriate (because he was sticking the same picture in for multiple tourist sites (that I suspect should all be one, anyway).
I also started reporting his reviews, as “inappropriate” or doesn’t apply - whatever. I can’t remember - last night was long and wearying. I spent hours doing this - and saw a lot of “Not changed” “Not Accepted” from Google Maps (or is it Google Local Guides?).
I would really appreciate it. This guy really burns my bottom for a number of reasons - mostly because this appears to be just effortless for him - and he is getting away with it. I work really hard to get mine entries right - and half the time - they get rejected. I don’t take that personally - but I have a long running resentment of men getting credit for work I do - especially in the IT industry. That happened to me all the time. I’m just old enough to be cranky about it. Where in the past, I just shrugged it off - as something “I cannot change” and “I can only change my own reaction to it”.
