I have tried to report the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame as a duplicate business, and my edit was rejected. I tried to do it again, and now I can’t get past the ‘edit’ option because the business is marked as temporarily closed due to COVID-19. The hall of fame is a part of/located within The College Basketball Experience. The CBE is the business, NOT the hall of fame. I work there - so I am in the ‘right’ one here; not Geoff, who is the Local Guide who added this as a business. (Not trying to be snarky, just trying to explain my expertise in this situation.) I do not want people to start reviewing our hall of fame as that’s not the business where we want our reviews to display. How can I get his listing removed? He gave us five stars, so I’d love to move his review to The CBE’s page; but even if we can not do that, I’d like the incorrect page taken down.
Hi @NexusKC
It sounds like you are associated with the business at the center of this issue, hence I would recommend that you seek help from the google my business community or find the relevant help pages here.
It is interesting that you seem to know who the Local Guide is. The local guide who created the duplicate place. This information is normally not available.
Merging places is possible, but it is probably the hardest task to do. It takes skills and quite a bit of patience.
Best of luck
Hello @NexusKC
The points of interests on Google Maps include not only the places of business but also scenic spots & tourists attractions.
I find a full article on the hall of fame in Wiki & in my opinion, the place deserves to be a standalone entity as a tourists attraction.
Nevertheless, there is a photo “By owner”, and thus the place appears to be claimed now. In that case the owner can manage the listing through GMB.
@NexusKC - that’s seems a mess. You should try to claim that business. Once it is verified and you own that too, you can then merge both place into one through Google My Business. It should be clear that once a place is verified, it can not be removed easily.
Hi @NexusKC I completely agree with @C_T this place deserves to have it’s standalone POI. In this case, what you might do is select ‘Located inside’ option to show the Maps users that that place located inside your place.
Thanks, @MortenCopenhagen . The name of the guy is right there on Google. He’s the only one who’s reviewed, so I’m assuming he’s who created it! I can take it to the GMB help pages, for sure.
Thanks @NexusKC
Good guess but just a guess I guess
Since you are getting very conflicting advice in this thread I’m tagging @sonnyNg with the hope that he will help you figure out if a merge should happen or not or maybe something else.
Cheers
Hi @NexusKC ,
Thank you for reaching out to the community! : ]
For the moment, as @MortenCopenhagen also kindly shared, the most viable direction is to have the inquiry motioned to Google My Business, as I would also suggest you to check the article Remove or report duplicate locations. (if there would be any changes as you have also mentioned, do make sure to follow closely updates in the post UPDATED: Temporary product changes in Google Maps)
I have reported a duplicate many times, and I’m still not getting any response from Google. I have posted here before, and I’m hoping maybe some new advice will come about. I work for The College Basketball Experience and I manage their GMB page. Within “The CBE,” is the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. It is not a separate business. It’s a feature within our tourist attraction. Someone added the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame as a business and I’ve been trying for nearly a year to get it removed. It only causes problems for people looking into The CBE and it negatively effects our business. The CBE paused itself on March 16 due to COVID. We are still closed to business, but we plan on re-opening once the vaccine is widely available. It’s a serious problem having this, in essence, fake account called the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. Please help me figure the best way to remove it!
Is there power in numbers? Should I ask all of my friends to report it as well?
Hi, my friend, @NexusKC . How are you doing? As you manage the GMB account of CEB, I believe that the best approach is to report through the GMB account. In this article, you will find all the instructions to do it. In case you have any difficulties, you can ask for help at GMB Help Center.
miss you,
Alexandre
Hello @NexusKC ,
Just to let you know, as to keep Connect organized, I am merging this post to your already ongoing post Trouble Reporting Duplicate.
