Trip to Kasol and Kheerganga
After visiting Manali in 2017, We (A group of 21 members) planned to visit Kasol and Kheerganga this time. We chose Mid May for the trip as holiday season was about to start and we wanted to avoid crowd and see everything fresh & clean.
Ludhiana to Kasol
We hired two Tempo Travellers with experienced drivers and left for Kasol on Friday evening around 9PM. We stopped around 11pm for dinner which was a bad idea. It is always good to eat early and one should avoid eating much while travelling to hilly areas. Around 3AM, it started getting cold and everyone went for warm clothes. We took a break for tea around 5:30 near Bhuntar and reached Kasol in next 2 hours. It was a lovely chilly morning at Kasol. We took our breakfast and Left for Barshaini at 10AM.
Road to Barshaini from Kasol was very bad. It took us one and half hour to reach Barshaini. It was a bit hot in Barshaini as sun was beating hard from the hills. We got ready for Trek to Kheerganga which was of around 12 KMs.
We can divide trek to Kheerganga in two parts. First half is the easy one. We went through narrow passage around the hill which was not very steep. It was beautiful view on the right side with Parbati river flowing calmly.
We went past the very old village called Nathan. It was a quite traditional village with beautiful houses made of wood. After passing Nathan, we stopped at mid-way point called Rudra Nag to have rest and click some pictures.
The second half, from Rudra Nag to Kheerganga, was the difficult one. It was slippery, rocky, and very steep. We were all very determined to reach at the top, so we kept moving slowly and motivated each other.
After four and half hour’s trek, we reached at Kheerganga which was a hill top with around 400 tents. It has a hot water pool and we all took holy bath there which was quite refreshing.
In the evening, we enjoyed around bonfire and had our dinner. During night, it was really cold out there. Blankets were of no use and some of us were waiting for morning eagerly. In the morning, when sun came, it became so beautiful and serene. After getting ready, we had our breakfast and started our journey back to Barshaini.
