Hi @Mr-W , welcome to Local Guides Connect.

Nice that you want to visit my country. A few tips for you:

  • Search in the community for Roma, Firenze, Venezia. Your will be able to find a lot of tips, in existing post, and the local guides that live on the area
  • Tag the Local Guides related, e.g., to Venezia. You can tag them in this post (typing the @ symbol followed by the username). In this way they will be notified about your tag
  • I will write a small guide about Venice in a few days. Stay tuned on the community for more fun

I have merged your two posts with the same content. Please remember that you can edit a post, using the post menu (three blue dots on the bottom of the post) instead of posting again

Hi @Mr-W ,

I think you are quite lucky with your request, as @AlessiaP is from Rome, @ErmesT lives close to Venice and I lived for several years close to Florence.

I think the period that you chose is ideal, as not many tourist will be around but the weather is generally quite good. For Florence it all depends on your taste. If you like arts I suggest you to visit Galleria degli Uffizi ( better if you book the ticket on line to skip the queue), Giardini di Boboli which is one of the main gardens, and Piazzale Michelangelo if you want to impress your friends with amazing picture of the city. For food a must try is “Lampredotto” , which is the typical street food of the city. I won’t tell you what is it, as I want you to be surprised by it.

Hope this would be helpful.

At first you have to choose if using car or train or what. I suggest to rent a car for an independent discovering.
In ROMA (Rome) you have a lot of things to see I suggest all Roman Forum, Colosseum, Vatican Museum, St. Peter’s Basilica, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Sistine Chapel, Piazza Navona, Castel Sant’Angelo, Piazza di Spagna, Villa Borghese Museum, Circus Maximus, Terme di Caracalla, Bocca della Verità (Mouth of Truth), Isola Tiberina, Colonna Traiana, Domus Area. For museum I suggest to book tickets in advance because there are always a lot of people for waiting for the opening. Wake-up early.
For foods I suggest to find mini and small markets where you can following locals for asking them local foods. In the big cities like that is really difficult to find local and real food. You can find all on Google Maps and plan your customized tour.

In FIRENZE (Florence) you must have to see Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Uffizi Gallery museum, Ponte Vecchio, Palazzo Vecchio, Pitti Palace, Palazzo della Signoria, David statue, Basilica of Santa Croce in Florence, Abbazia di San Miniato al Monte, Arno river and Mercato Centrale where you can find good local foods. Eat there with some locals. Special is a grilled T-bone steack called “FIORENTINA” and of course Sangiovese and Brunello di Montalcino wines.

in VENEZIA (Venice) you can try to discover the Lagoon City in a different way… try to wake-up so early and walking in the morning without tourists… (there are a lot).
Doge’s Palace, San Marco Basilica, Rialto Bridge, Grand Canal, Ponte dei Sospiri (Bridge of Sighs), La Fenice Theatre, Murano and Burano islands, Correr Museum, Glass Museum, Arsenale, Grassi Palace, Scuola Grande di San Rocco and The Venice Lido. Lido is a good solution to stay quite and relaxed. No crowded. About foods you have the Bacaro’s are local restaurants where you have a lot of nibbles called “cicchetti”.
So… start you planning and good luck. For more info you can ask me, of course…

Thank you for the tips!

was looking for a private guide especially in the Sorrento area, if you have any leads on that?

I will be in Sorrento from 2nd June till 3rd June and want to do a Boat trip around Capri as well as visit Amalfi. Is it doable?
