This is the account of our poorly planned trip to Italy which turned out well at the end with all twists and turns!
We started at Schipol airport in Amsterdam and reached Rome by afternoon. A super cool old man rode us from Roma FCO to Roma Termini. Experienced rash driving, messy roads, impromptu traffic, and dirty cars which we loved.
We were heading to Naples, but we had not reserved the train tickets. Boom! we had to book an Uber to reach Naples so that we could reach early(ya it was costly, but we were ready to explore everything out there).
Place of stay was at Varcaturo, which is a metropolitan city at Campina. Food was cheap and yummy there, waw! that was all I wanted. People weren’t talking English. It was really fun to put on such an effort to buy Vino Bianco(White wine) and Pollo(chicken). I literally had to use Google translate everywhere in Varcaturo.
Next day, the long journey to Amalfi started. From Varcaturo to Amalfi without a car and only via public transport, was really tiring. We took a halt at Salerno to feel the sea breeze.
I was mesmerized, these words are really less to express what I felt…! These lines are the impact of the bus ride from Salerno to Amalfi, through the seashores and over the cliffs. No wonder that this location is hyped much! It truly deserves to be.
By the time we got down at Amalfi, we were hungry and it was the time for luscious lasagna, palatable pizza, succulent spaghetti, and Amalfi’s famous lemon drink. Then visited the beach, relaxed a bit and made ourselves tired with hell lots of clicks. Here comes the next awesome experience, “Ferry ride”. Ferry took us back to Salerno along the calm waveless sea. The day attained its closure with plentiful Limoncello shots.
Again, at the subsequent morning, we traveled to Rome through EuroRail. Rushing Tiber river welcomed us with the glee(I felt it that way, no comments on how my companions felt, they were drained out by then).
Our first item in the checklist was Vatican city as it was just 5 mins walk from where we stayed. The Vatican gave me a life-changing experience, ya I am talking about the holy water!
We moved towards Piazzo del Popolo, Spanish steps, Piazza di Spagna, Trevi Fountain. They were all huge and massive. The majesty of the Roman empire awed me. And yea, its time for food! We had Gelato, Tiramisu, cannoli and pizza in front of Pantheon, the grand Roman temple. Next day broke, we spent half a day at the colossal Flavian Amphitheatre, which is called Colosseum. I started imagining myself as a gladiator. Oh, that’s horrible! I should suppress my thoughts!
Final destination in Italy was Pisa. I honestly wanted to mention about the bus ride from Pisa Centrale to the leaning tower with nil transport charges and super hot bus driver. We started posing crazy with the Pisa tower, just like everybody around us. Since my camera battery went down, I used my eyes to capture the exquisite view.
That was all we did during our Easter holidays(Four days!) and we arrived back to Amsterdam the same day.
To muse over, this trip had incessant running and tireless wandering! Thus fulfilling the wish of roaming in Rome!
