Treviso Food Crawl 2019 - Local Guides discovering Local Food

Introduction:
One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well
Inspired by this sentence from Virginia Woolf we wanted to offer to our guest, tired after a long walk in the morning, and a wine tasting in the afternoon, a good and relaxing dinner.
I can’t stand people that do not take food seriously”, Oscar Wilde said
We take food really seriously, in Italy. That’s why in the morning, when we visited the Street Market, we wanted to show to our guests the provenience of their next dinner.

We wanted to offer Local Food, collected fresh and prepared in the Local way. A lot of Local aspects on a Local Guides Meet-up

The Location
How to choose a restaurant for a Meet-up?
What we wanted to offer to our guests was an experience of “Local Food”. For this reason we were looking for a local restaurant, possibly in a village, so definitely not a touristic place.
We wanted a very simple menu, based on the classic dishes of the area. Of course, as it is not easy to find a restaurant available on Saturday night, we had to search and to choose the place well in advance.
I cannot find better words, to describe the restaurant, than the ones used by @RiccyB on his review: “… we opted for a 5-course menu that expressed the tastes of the ingredients of the area. The experience was really positive ……. and I would recommend this place if you are looking for an atmosphere like the one described

The menu
Again, I can use Riccardo’s words from his review: “We started with a very tasty appetizer with polenta, mushrooms, soppressa trevisana and flaked grana followed by risotto with Treviso radicchio, a lasagna with pumpkin and a second course of veal cheek and vegetables. The cooking of the pillow was perfect, it literally melted in the mouth. Finally a very balanced tiramisu. The whole dinner was accompanied by loose light red wine (very young) and prosecco with dessert. The house then offered grappa and limoncello
We wanted, as I said already, to offer an experience of Local Food.

Polenta, mushrooms, soppressa Trevisana (a kind a large salami) is always the basic appetizer in Treviso.
Risotto with radicchio di Treviso: this is a “must try” dish. One of the reason to choose the restaurant was his position on the middle of radicchio fields.
Lasagna with pumpkin: another classic dish of the Pianura Padana, perfect in winter.
Veal cheek and vegetables: meat is very common, in Veneto, and Veal is for sure the best meat that you can offer to your guests.
Tiramisù and Prosecco: both the words, together with radicchio, have only one meaning: Treviso. Most of the people around the world have no idea about Treviso, where the city is, what we produce, how we live. But if you say “Tiramisù and Prosecco” everyone will smile, knowing very well what we are talking about.
At the end of the dinner, together with espresso, grappa and Limoncello, we also had a bottle of Californian Port, bought by me just for the wine meet-up.

The dinner
A dinner with friends is always the best way to close a day. After a lot of rain, seating all together on the same table, sharing food and experience, smiles and jokes, is absolutely relaxing. If, as an extra benefit, you have the Connect Live master of selfies , @LuigiZ with you, the success of the evening is assured.

At the end of the dinner, as @RiccyB said, Tiramisù and Prosecco. What we didn’t mentioned was that the tiramisù was a “Local Guides Wine Meet-up Special Edition” tiramisù, made by the restaurant just for us.

What we learned from the dinner?
This time the answer is open, for the attendees of the meet-up to respond, and share with us their feeling (and their photos, of course)

Tomorrow is another day, we will have another walk, and more rain

Hi @ermest,

what a wonderful recap, as expected! Yes we take food seriously, we are Italians, and we are Local Guides hehe. It has been a great meetup, great evening and lovely dinner with already friends and new friends, how special is that.

What we learned? Well the local food is delicious of course, but when we are together as a friend and as a family it is always a huge pleasure spend that time.

Let me share a collection of photos from my recap ? and some extra “selfies” hehe.

Thank you @ErmesT for this great recap! The question at the end of your post is interesting and I will give my answer to it! Personally I learned many things during this dinner. It was an opportunity for a personal recap about not only the meetup itself but also about CL19. This was the first meet-up for me since I started to be a LG and It was a powerful opportunity to live some time with people with my same passion that came from other cities of Italy and from abroad! The CL19 gave me a different view of what be a LG means and I’m so happy to decide start my meetup participation by choose 4 meetups in one!! So I learned how my honest contribution can made GMaps a better and powerful instrument for the day by day life of many people. This dinner was the right expression of how Italians are ambassadors of their land! Food is really important for us! :grinning:

Meeting you is always a great experience @LuigiZ . Your selfies are now a reference, after Connect Live.

Friends at dinner, all together, like a continuation, one week later, of Connect Live. I am so happy also for the friends who traveled across Europe, like @NatalkaR , @uavalentine , @JaneBurunina , @KarolT , Pavel (are you in connect?) @Stella2 .

I have to admit that, after seeing the list of all the international attendees, I have been a bit scared, not sure to be able to reach the expectations.

But I have to admit that we had a lot of fun

Thank you @RiccyB

I didn’t knew this was your first Meetup, this makes me happier and sad at the same time, because you had a very wet series of meetups.

We can impact on a business listings, that’s why the gamification is dangerous.

But the honestly written reviews, the good photos, can help a lot. I wanted to use your review because it was exactly what I wanted to share as a content for the recap. Amazing

The organization of every single meet-up from beginning to end was just perfect!!!

The Food Crawl Meet-up was totally overwhelming due extremely delicious local food and exceptionally creative company of Local Guides!!!

Thank you @RiccyB for your review with the great description of the menu and thank you @ErmesT for having chosen this special place and organized this unique experience for us, explaining the meaning of every dish we had a pleasure to taste!

It is fascinating that every region of Italy has its own local dish that was INVENTED there, and in most of cases there are even several ones!!!

Treviso region is a great example of that!

We definitely implemented quotes of Virginia Woolf and Oscar Wilde into life during the sequence of these meet-ups!

Great photos @KarolT , it is beautiful to see a lot of friends smiling.

It was a pleasure to be finally able to meet you.

You make me blushing, @uavalentine .

From the first wine meet-up on 2017, we tried to organise an event more than a simple meet-up, offering to our guests an experience of our province, beautiful but unknown to the most.

Year by year, we learned how to introduce the area, marking the difference and the common elements between Treviso and the universality known Venice.

This helps us to study, and to be the first to learn, to discover the cultural heritage of the area.

The beautiful aspect is that, who joined once, wants to return. This is our payback, together with the experience of meeting friends.

Tiramisù cannot last for more than a few hours, @Petra_M , but you can find it, fresh made, every day. Just ping me, for an unforgettable day (or more) in my area.

We will be proud of being your personal Local Guides

I am so impressed from this dinner! This restaurant was in a village, and the 5 course menu was really delicious and interesting. All the taste and incidents was different from what I used to, but everything was really delicious. I love wine and now I love prosecco. But best of all the huge tiramissu! I think I have a lot of reasons to come again.
