Trekking to Kirstong & Rungrang-Day 1

Adventure lovers often rush to the mountains for trekking. And one of the favorite places for mountain and trekking lovers is Bandarban in Bangladesh. I went to the highest Rungrang and Kristong hills of the Chimbuk Range of Bandarban. This was our 3 day and 4 night trip. I am describing the trekking to Rungrang and Kristong hills through a series of posts.

Our journey started from Sayedabad bus stand in Dhaka. Our bus left at around 11:30 pm and reached Alikadam in Bandarban district by 8:30 am the next day. As soon as we got off the bus, we went to a local hotel for breakfast. The breakfast consisted of rice, mashed potato, fried eggs, and dal.

Then from there we reached Amtalaghat by autorickshaw, from where we had to take a boat to Dusribazar.

Unfortunately, our reserved boat had already left. We had to wait until 3pm to catch the next boat.

Our boat was sailing along the Twin Canal towards Dusribazar. The beauty of the Twin Canal flowing between the steep mountains was breathtaking.

Because the water in the Twin Canal was low, we sometimes had to get off the boat and push it.

Continuing this way, it was 5 pm when we reached Dusri Bazar.

Our next destination from Dusri Bazaar was Menyangpara. When we left for Menyangpara, it was 6 pm. We were walking and walking. The road seemed endless. After a 4-hour long trek, we reached Menyangpara with a very difficult uphill and downhill climb with a tired body. At that time, it took us only 1 hour to go from Dusri Bazaar to Menyangpara…so this is the situation…

Then we had to climb another 3 hours of steep hills, almost all of them ridge lines, and seeing them so thin in one place, I suddenly started feeling bad. I crossed that part of the path with the help of my companions and trekkers, then took a little rest and climbed the steep hills again.

On the way, we rested for a while in a neighborhood.

To be continued…

Precautions

  1. Be sure to wear shoes. Be mindful of your clothing.
  2. Do not leave any non-biodegradable waste.
  3. Carry enough water with you. Water is not always available.
  4. Inform the army camp about the guide. They will arrange a guide who must know the area well.
