Tree Lady: Beautiful but really weird!

Often when traveling you come across or experience things unusual and today while trying to fill in some boring idle time during this COVID-19 lock down, I’ve been going though my countless number of photos from recent trips and I came across these photos that I recall taking on one of my trips. They are of what looked like a native lady, heavily tattooed and scantily dressed and barefoot, climbing into a large palm tree in Papeete, French Polynesia. It was really weird to say the least. Here is what transpired…

1 - Firstly I couldn’t help but notice her because she was so scantily dressed, barefoot and heavily tattooed, but even more so, because she was climbing onto a large palm tree (photo above). Then after climbing, she sat with barefeet delicately placed on the branches of this palm tree (next photo below)…

2 - Perhaps she noticed that I was staring at her and next gave a most unusual, deep and piercing backward glance! Sorry but now my camera became a little unsteady.

3 - Strange as all this was, she was the most attractive young lady, beautiful but with piercing eyes:

4 - She then rose and turned, and with her full heavily tattooed back towards me, faced into the thick palm trees. I really had no idea what she was going to do next, maybe a backward summersault:

5 - No summersault. instead she proceeded to move deep into the thick palm tress and slowly disappeared:

6 - This princess then disappeared into the thick palm tree setting. This must have all been just a silly dream…

Hi @AdamGT , I’m curious about the lady when you took her photo. Did she say something? Her hair is beautiful and her tattoo as well. Reminding me about a scene of movie

No words spoken at all. Just that stern facial look with those piercing eyes as shown in photo 3 and 4. Yes a movie, or dream, just so surreal. I’d forgotten all about this incident and photos because it wasn’t about Local Guides or usable as such, but today while searching through photos I saw them again.

@AdamGT I’m curious about this. Where is it actually? In a hotel area?

No not at a hotel @Ant_Bad_Yogi . From the photos’ location data it was on the coast around this location about 22 km away from Papeete, on Tahiti, the capital of French Polynesia. At the time I was on my way to the Faarumai Waterfall which is in a very secluded and heavily forested area. In fact, most of the island is like this and the palm trees you see in the photos are very typical of the whole area. I will edit the post and try to add the more precise location.

I of course don’t usually take photos of individuals like this however, because it was so extraordinary I did but still very much reluctantly so. If she had of said something I would have walked away but she didn’t say a word. She just looked deep into my eyes, and then disappeared into the heavily wooded forest. While not altogether the same as this experience, I had another similar weird experience while on the Appalachian Trail somewhere in the Cherokee National Forest located in the Southern Appalachian Mountains of east Tennessee. I’ll have to find the photos and save this for a later post. Travel is often full of surprises!

Yes @Ant_Bad_Yogi it would be interesting if someone here from French Polynesia might know something. Maybe this lady is known, or her costume or tattoos are known!

Thank you so much for your thoughts on this as it has puzzled me from the very start. It’s interesting how you said words along the lines that it looks like a movie which I think is the same thought that @NunungAfuah had. I didn’t see it like that at the time, just very unusual but now yes I can see how you could have that idea and yes it would be great if there was an Local Guide here from French Polynesia who can maybe explain it. Maybe it will remain a mystery like @Ant_Bad_Yogi has said, and this will drive me crazy for ever and ever.
