Vienna is surely one of the most peaceful developed cities in Europe. I had a lucky chance to visit Vienna during a short layover. And indeed it was worth it. A very beautiful place to be in. So quite, so serene.
The metro available from airport, along with the city tram network (including sight seeing ring tram) are truly majestic and tourist friendly.
Because of the public transport system, I was easily able to visit popular attractions such as the St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the Opera House, various gardens, Graben and the nearby markets, Vienna palace, and a few more places covered by the sightseeing ring tram.
As for the food, it’s quite good as well. I could try only a couple of dishes (being a pure vegetarian), but it’s quite easy to find local restaurants, cafes and shops in the city.
@KanishkNagpal Vienna looks like a great city to visit. How much time have you stayed in Vienna? Is easy to get the touristic attractions from the Airport? Did you use public transportation or a taxi?
BTW, I’d like to enjoy a layover time do visit new cities. A long layover can be a problem for some people, but, I purposely schedule it to explore a new destination.
I stayed in Vienna for nearly 6 hours, but I still managed to visit quite a few popular attractions. I used public transport to get there. The city metro is readily available to and from the airport. The tram network is also quite cool. It really made my day.
And yes I also intentionally prefer layover because of the same reason as yours
I have managed to visit fantastic places like Amsterdam, Zurich and Vienna because of layover.
It looks like a wonderful trip to the beautiful Vienna!
Would you add more description to your post? This way it would be more interesting and the other Local Guides will learn where to go i they visit the city and where what to eat for example.
