I would like to travel from Los Angeles to Dallas, Texas. I have done this many times. Looking for a more northern route.

That’s an interesting query.
Nevertheless, Maps doesn’t offer any train route between these two places. You may have to take a look at the Amtrak site.
But then, that may not be the route as per your preference.
There is one roundabout way to achieve that. You can pick any other prominent spot much northwards of Dallas and then complete the remaining part through another train.
