Travel in Taiwan ~ XinWu Green Tunnel in Taoyuan

I am Exy from Taiwan. I’d like to show you a tourist spot in Taiwan, the Xin Wu Green Tunnel, where normally only local people would go. Despite it’s listed on trip adviser, it’s in Mandarin Chinese. Another website in
“taiwan.net.tw” has intro in English, but it seems not known to international travelers, I hope you can receive some useful information for travel from this video.

I recommend this spot for two reasons. One for its beautiful bike route, and second for it’s vast inter-tidal zone.

To reach to Xin Wu Green tunnel, you can take the train to Zhongli Train Station and call a cab. Despite there’s bus number 5027 that would take you there, but they are not frequent, so you may ended up wasting much time on the traffic.

A green tunnel is not a tunnel through the mountains, but a road where its top is covered by branches and leaves from trees grown on both sides. There are many green tunnels all over Taiwan, but I think this one in Win Wu is one of the best for its satisfying length of 4.3 km.

There are bikes for rent around both south and north entrances. The north entrance is closer to Zhongli station so it’s advised to start there. The bicycle rental fee ranges from 100 to 600 TWD depending on the bike capacity. I rented a tandem bike good for two, and it cost 200 TWD per day. Most bicycle rental stores run from 9am to 6pm daily.

Along Xin Wu Green tunnel, there are horsetail tree, Marabutan, Ficus religiosa, Cuban Bast, and Sea mango paving the route. When you see FuXin Temple, you reach the south entrance. On my way back, I took the coastal path parallel to the Green Tunnel to enjoy the ocean view.

There are a few rivers reaching to their end in Xin Wu. During sunny day, the water flows in low amount and spread in fan shape on the intertidal zone towards the ocean, making the seashore so soft that walking on it is as if walking on a fine silk.

Here you can see Sand ball scattered all over. The sand ball is the made by the sand bubbler crabs after consuming plankton from sand for food. During high tide, the sand balls will be washed away, and during the low tide, crabs would come out from the sand holes and repeat the sand ball production. Walk carefully through this area because they might be near your feet.

Please have the reference in the video introduction below if you’re interested to visit there. You can use them to search on google map or show it to taxi driver.

I hope you will discover more in Taiwan.
