Hi all, This is my detailed introductory post, so that our Local Guides Community know about me and exchange ideas.
For about last two and a half years i have been associated with Google Maps. Incidentally I became Local Guide as I was very much fascinated by geography and maps since my childhood. After becoming Local Guide I could understand that I may nurture my love towards geography and maps. Whenever I got time, I used to look into maps finding places, that were mentioned in the text books. Sometimes I wondered how maps were created in olden days when no modern equipments were available. How people came to know the location of Mumbai, London, New York etc., was thing of mystery…! Even today I wonder about the common sense and capabilities our fore fathers who could create maps of their Districts, States, Nations and ultimately the Globe…!
Today we are in digital era. Map of any spot on the Globe is available by touch of a screen. Earlier people used maps very minimally. But now, we need maps for most of our activities. As millions of people travel everyday, they depend on maps that show all the facilities like Transportation, Hotels, Restaurents, Lodgings, Special attractions of places etc., I mean to say that maps have become inevitable to individuals and Google Maps makes a person really independent if one has mobile with him. There are no chances of a person losing his way anytime.
Friends I am working in ALL INDIA RADIO, at Kalaburagi (Gulbarga) city, in Karnataka State, India.
It is situated in southern part of India. My work is to travel to remote places of districts and talk to farmers about their practices and achievements so that I can produce audio programmes and broadcaste them on Radio.
I like travelling for official purposes and also for learning and entertainment. By travelling to the places of interest you will come to know the culture and heritage of the areas you visit. Sometimes you come across with an architectural marvel, a wonderful monument, an undiscovered waterfalls etc., Such things will enrich our experience and may change our perspective of looking at life.
Along with travel, I keep interest in writing articles in my mother tounge-Kannada. It’s my hobby. Till now I have published many books on agriculture and related subjects. I contribute articles to magazines also. These very hobbies have strongly bound me with Google Maps. Of late, I am contributing to Google Maps almost everyday. I write extensive reviews about the places I visit so that next visitors should get a clear picture of the place.
Google Maps is a forum where, I think I can contribute a lot for the welfare of the society. That is why I want to bring every useful establishment or service on maps with almost all details that a visitor would need. That is the reason why one can see variety in my contributions. Such contributions I hope would enrich the lives of people.
