Train traveller

I was wondering how often do you travel by train :bullettrain_front: and how far?

Are trains popular in your country? Share your experience in comments!

Personally I travel by rail up to 3 times a year. How far? It’s twice longer than going by car, but more convenient and cheaper.
The quality of trains vary around Ukraine. I live in the western part of the country which is considered to be a hilly place. That’s the reason to use fuel trains in this area as far as it’s impossible to build the rail for machines that use electricity. Not environmentaylly friendly, but affordable way of travelling.

Talking about my motherland, Ukraine, it’s very traditional to take a picture in front of the train or at the railway station.

I was lucky to travel by train abroad, in Italy. It was a little bit pricey for a typical ukrainian like me. Was it worth it? Yes, indeed! I is super clean and comfortable. There’s even a proper air conditioners inside! It’s a shame that in the majority of overnight ukrainian trains there’s no air conditioner inside. :confounded:

Before the shutdown I regularly travelled by train @Yana_Patricia because I’m a volunteer on a steam railway called Puffing Billy which is unfortunately closed for a while due to Covid19. I drive from the very small to…

and I’m a second person in the somewhat larger version but from time to time drive under instruction like on this day

Oh! Thank you @PaulPavlinovich for sharing these lovely photos! I envy you so much… It must be great to ride such a cute steam train!

I remember the time my grandpa worked at the factory. I begged him to let me watch the train moving around the factory for a little while. Sometimes I simply sat on a hill and counted the train coaches. I could count more than fifty at one time. I believe I could watch Puffing Billy going here and there all day long

Don’t be sad about temporary closure because of COVID19. I believe things will get better soon :slightly_smiling_face:

It’s the main source or medium which fulfill the wanderlust mostly in Indian subcontinent.

I do travel very often by train otherwise even long journeys are also preferred by Car. In this year I had travelled by train a little about 4000 kms.

It’s a very interesting thread please do elaborate so members may understand.

These are few pictures of my recent journey from Bhopal to Mumbai and Mumbai to Goa.

Hi @Yana_Patricia

I love to travel by train. I find it very convenient for local travels especially when it has different class coaches because sometimes you’d want to ride comfortably. But from where I come from, Kaduna there is only one modern train connectivity which connects my town to the capital city of Nigeria, Abuja. The only constraint to this journey is that reaching to the train station, it is located western part of the city which takes about 25 mins to get there. The journey is about 160km and it takes 2hrs 15 mins to get there with about 5 stops, although not major towns. The train is diesel powered.

Hi @PaulPavlinovich

These are quality pictures, thank you for sharing them. Please what device did you use and how do you upload quality pictures like these? Every time I try to upload my pictures like the quality gets reduced somehow as compared to what it looks like on my phone.

Please if you can help me out, thank you.

Its been quite a while since I traveled on a train. The only reason is the uncertain timings and delays in departures. So, most of the people prefer to travel by bus or car which is much convenient and but of course costly. We used to travel by train back in late 90s when they had a good structure and facilities.
