Hi everybody. I’m Alberto Scattolin. I’m a beginner Local Guide as I try to make some improvements to Google Maps with the belief that it is a fantastic and useful tool. I’ve had ideas in my head for a long time and I’ve never been able to figure out how to promote/propose them. I found this community and I take the opportunity to understand if the Maps tool can evolve in a certain direction. I find Maps an incredible resource, even for traffic information. And I’ve had a belief that Maps could be a resource for providing public road assessments and support. Through Maps it is possible to review private activities but there is no way to review the different road solutions that municipalities or public authorities adopt for urban and extra-urban traffic.
I would like a system of evaluation of existing junctions, one-way streets and roundabouts to be implemented to point out something wrong to the authorities. Of course, it is true that traffic is visible to all, but the power of a public and open review would probably favor even more appropriate choices. Furthermore, I think Maps also has the potential to simulate the incidence of average traffic in the event of changes to the road system, for example with the transformation of streets into one-way streets or with the transformation of current traffic light intersections into roundabouts. Certainly there are many private Studios/Companies which, probably at a high price, already offer themselves with the offices in charge of the public administrations to support in the choices. But I think Maps has demonstrated in its history that it drives the continuous improvement of information accessible to all. Well, this is more or less my project. Is anyone already aware of something that is evolving in this direction? How could these goals be developed?
Thank you.
PS I thank @ErmesT who directed me to describe my idea in this post.

Since I published the post, I’ve been looking for info on systems already operating on other platforms that manage world maps. Most of the proposals already in place refer to improving the strategic choice in reaching an address, thus allowing users to be provided with real-time traffic information, or valuteing about temporary street changes. No proposal on creating a real analysis base of existing infrastructures. Perhaps my idea of making a traffic simulator is too complex to be handled through Google Maps. But being able to start contributing and evaluating existing infrastructure could be a natural evolution of Maps.
What do you think?
