Traditional Korean Tteokbokki

Tteokbokki (rice cakes) are a really popular Korean dish and a very common street food.

Hi @user_not_found ,

Thank you for the great picture, it is really mouth watering. It makes me reminisce about the great taste and texture of the dish.

I remember you like tteokbokki but wanted to ask you how spicy it was? This was surely my favorite Korean street food, but since the sauce does not look as red as the ones I ate in Korea I was wondering if maybe it was with some different and not so spicy sauce?

@LilyanaZ For my taste it’s not much spicy. When I want to eat really spicy tteokbokki I prepare them at home salted with kimchi and add the spicy I like.

Have tried the tteokbokki salted with kimchi in a Chinese restaurant and loved them (they were also more spicy) but as always, I tend to remake these dishes at home as they are not so spicy at the restaurant. Typical Chinese restaurants provide very spicy dishes because we have a strong Chinese community and some restaurants even live with just Chinese customers: Korean restaurants still have surely to adapt to Italian taste as there are very few Koreans in Milan.

Thank you for your response @user_not_found . That was exactly my point when I asked you about the level of spice in the dish, because I have noticed the same - taste is adapted for the locals to enjoy as well.

Glad to see another spicy food lover - if you decide to visit Korea I think you will love the food there. :))

@LilyanaZ I hope to visit Korea, in the meantime I’m going to satisfy my need for spicy food in China this summer. And well, luckily also Chinese restaurants not adapted to local taste are present in my area. But the only Korean recipe really spicy I am able to enjoy here are my homemade Tteokbokki salted with kimchi in which I literally abound with spicy peppers bought at the Chinese market.
