This is another blast of a meet-up. It’s a pity we couldn’t record it. We were about 30 local guides in attendance which includes about 5 connect moderators.A replay would have have been too wonderful. The meet-up was a gathering of very vibrant and active Road Champions. The interactions were cordial and lively. The presentation was professional and the participations were active. The explanations were so detailed that I have learned alot myself on drawing roads. An ideal meet-up on roads. Special thanks to @ErmesT for the preparation of slides and for the meet-up link which was perfect for the timing for this meet-up. @JustJake was all jokes on this meet-up so I doubt if he learnt anything at all. He was there anyway. @jayasimha78 we missed your quiz this time around but its OK. Maybe next time. @MrFreez my main guy was quite active on the meet-up too.

First things first,I gave the introduction and welcomed everyone to the first day of TRAC and to the exceptional meet-up if roaders !!!

  • Ermes began his presentation with a hand warm up to prepare us for adding many roadsErmes introduced himself with his local guide info and the fact he has 32,371 roads added.Ermes highlighted that TRAC participants are from 6 continents, and span 7 levels of Local Guides, 12 Different countries

11 members have yet to add any roads, and 6 who have already added over 500.Congratulations was given to Shola and Morten on their 1-year anniversary of becoming Connect Moderators. Another connect moderator @Cecilita

was also celebrated for her Level 10 achievement.

  • Ermes reviewed questions from LGs regarding his Road Mapping experience

Ermes started with mapping after an earthquake in Cascia in 2017 (? year not certain)

Started checking for correct roads as they rebuilt areas

  • Ermes reviewed the steps to add roads to the map

Ermes also gave some tricks to best split up edits in to small segments to give a better chance of approval.

Ermes showed ways to locate unmapped areas for adding roads

zooming out enough to show the highlighted road on the satellite view to find images of roads not covered by mapped roads

Look at the outskirts of a large area for growth that has not been mapped

Ermes discussed adding long stretches of roads - they should be split into smaller segments and waiting until the first stretch is approved and adding to it

    • Ermes discussed how to remember where he was adding roads to go back

Create a list and save the area and revisit saved spots to see if and when approvals are accepted and can be added to

What Experience motivates you to add roads?

Steps to submit road information.

Ermes was asked to share a little bit about Google earth which he did during the meet-up.

There was a very crucial matter was raised during the meet-up; Rate of rejection and approval of roads. Lots of local guides have carried out lots of tests and experiments regarding this. Particularly @MortenCopenhagen has collected lots of data and information regarding this. There are others too like @MarcoDavoli our prominent TRAC member and statistician. Regardless of the approval and rejection rate,we love what we do and we are advancing on TRAC.

Local guides asked during the meet-up.

  • Is it OK to add a road again after rejection?

Answer: Maps AI rejects roads automatically after 90 days of pending. It’s fine and acceptable to re-add the rejected roads all over again.

  • Can I draw roads in a different location from the comfort of my home?

Answer: Yes you don’t need to be in a particular geographical region to be able to draw roads. Location is not necessary or important to be able tonadd roads. For instance I could edit roads in Italy from Nigeria. That’s an advantage to this type of Edit.

  • How do you know a normal road from a dried up river bed?

I didn’t capture the answer sọ perhaps Ermes or Marco please answer again in the comment box. Thank you.

  • How do you know when à road os under construction?

This is another question I didn’t get the answer Marco Ermes or Morten please help answer this in the comment box. Thank you.

  • Sign up for Alfred’s Tracking spreadsheet. This is the last information here. @Rednewt74 has created a workbook that could make calculations of our road data during TRAC fairly simple and easy. Everyone that has registered on TRAC should please subscribe to the work book.

@PrasadVR was the special co-host of the event. Thank you sir and please kindly tag other ones that I didn’t tag on the main post. Your help is well appreciated.

Happy mapping

We are grateful to @ErmesT sir for sharing his valuable experience and motivation. His presentation has clarified many doubts regarding editing orange roads, mapping roads in remote unconnected areas, overlapping and intersection of roads. Good discussion took place on editing orange roads. The three hours passed quickly due to the depth of the content and presentation. I hope many of our LG friends beniftted from the presentation.

Thank you @SholaIB sir for the nice recap and your kind words in your post.

Thank you LG friends for making the meet-up very successful.
