Touch of Colombia in State College

Barranquero Cafe closed its doors a few months ago and I was sad. For Latinos in Florida, if a Colombian restaurant closes, three more open the next day. But this is State College! If a Latino restaurant closes, there will rarely be another opening.

In fact, I can count with my fingers the number of restaurants featuring Latin American Cuisine. But to my surprise and the surprise of other Latino immigrants, Touch of Colombia opened its doors a month ago.

I have been there twice. The first time, I tried the chicken empanadas and brought a few extra to share with part of the Board of the Center for Alternatives in Community Justice. It seems to me that they liked them because they were asking where did I buy them.

The second time was for breakfast a couple of days ago. I got a cheese arepa with scrambled eggs Colombian style.

They have a lunch menu and they open on the weekends. Among many other products, they offer the authentic Colombian brew. My favorite is the black Colombian coffee (which is medium roasted) with a shot of espresso.

I love to see State College becoming a town where differences are acceptable and encouraged. Food is the best to have our residents interact with others’ cultures and traditions. It promotes inclusion and diversity. Not as much as language would do, but good food is a good start.

I leave you here the link in case my article called your attention to the point that you would like to give it a try. https://www.touchofcolombia.com/
