Törggelen in Alto Adige

In the Alto Adige region, in Italy, since the beginning of October till the beginning of Advent, is the season of the Törggelen.

It is an old tradition borne by wine lovers and hosts that went to farmers to try the new wine. At the origin the wine test was made in the winery where there was the winepress (in local slang, “Torggl”) hence the name Törggelen.

Initially the guests brought by themselves some food, but then farmers started to serve seasonal dishes from their products. One of the most characteristic are the chestnuts.

Now this tradition have been recovered, in some “maso”, the typical land ownership of Tyrol characterized by the indivisibility of the property, the farmer proposes the old menu. Usually most parts of products are made by himself, maybe someone is from a neighbor.

These photos was taken during the inaugural season 2020, at maso Fronthof. The first news of maso Fronthof are of 1379, the actual building was built in sixsteenth century.
