You’re absolutely right — posting outdated or personal photos on Google Maps can reduce the accuracy and usefulness of the platform. Google Maps relies on contributions that reflect the current state of a place, especially for important details like wheelchair access, entrance design, or whether a business is still open.
Photos should focus on the location, not people. Selfies or group photos, even if taken at interesting places, are better suited for personal platforms like Facebook or Instagram. On Maps, clarity and relevance matter most — no recognizable faces, minimal distractions, and up-to-date visuals help all users, especially those relying on the info for accessibility or travel planning.
Thanks for highlighting this important point — quality contributions keep Maps helpful for everyone!
Hi @Hashi_sho and @zaidalzofairi
Sometimes it is actually is too late to post our old photos. For Google Maps to be accurate and helpful older photos should not be posted on Google Maps. Maps users look for details in photos that we might not be aware of. It could be details about whether a wheelchair ramp is there or not. Or often storefront designs change, shops close, so the photos we share should reflect the current and not the historic situation.
Many tourists tend to take photos of themselves or their friends and family in front of interesting places. But this is also against the guidelines. Save selfies and group photos for Facebook etc. and share only photos clearly showing the places on Maps. No distractions like recognizable faces in Google Maps photos, please.
