The ancient name of Sonargaon was Subarnagram. Sonargaon was also the capital of Isha Khan, one of the twelve Bhuiyas of Bengal. Sonargaon is most famous as the capital of Isha Khan.

There are various historical memories of rural Bengal here. These are - Folk and Crafts Foundation Museum, Historic Panam Nagar, Gowaldi Mosque, Ghiyas Uddin Azam Shah’s Shrine and many other historical places.

Panam Nagar is a traditional ancient city of Bangladesh. Panam Nagar has many centuries-old buildings that are associated with the history of the Bar Bhuiyans of Bengal. This Panam city has been developed over an area of ​​20 square kilometers of Sonargaon.
In the museum, visitors can see the weapons used by the ancient Sultans of Bengal, ornaments, clothes, armour, ornaments etc. There are many artifacts of ancient and medieval folk art of Bengal, there are ancient coins of Bengal. Exhibition of handicrafts such as bamboo-cane, wood carving, clay, jamdani, nakshikantha, ektara, jute, conch, pottery and oyster products made by unknown, unrecognized, financially neglected yet skilled artisans from different parts of the country in various Dochala, Chauchala and tribal houses at Karupalli. And there are sales centers.

A folk craft fair is organized here in Sambar every month of Baisakh. Traditional programs of folk culture such as folk music, jatrapala, kabigan etc. are performed in Emela. There is also boating in the lake in front of the museum and fishing in the winter seasoaccommodation
how to go

One can go directly to Folk and Crafts Museum by private car or microbus. And if you want to go by bus then you have to get down at Sonargaon Mograpara intersection.
From there you have to go to Sonargaon Museum by rickshaw/autorickshaw. About 2 km from Mograpara Bus Stand: Sonargaon Museum is located inland and Panam Nagar is adjacent to it. So anyone can go there by any type of vehicle including bus, minibus, micro, private car, baby taxi, motorcycle.

Restaurant and accommodation
If you want to stay here for the night, you can stay in the government post bungalow subject to permission.

Entrance fee, opening and weekly closing days

Sonargaon Museum is closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The ticket price to enter Sonargaon Museum is 50 rupees. The museum is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm from Friday to Tuesday. Car parking is available.

The environment is constantly under threat due to the constant arrival of many visitors. However, the surveillance of the authorities is noticeable.
