Patience is the solution. You points tallies are done regularly with intervals up to about one week.
One trick: the tallies under your badges in the apps could be more accurate, but they also are not updated live.

According to what I have read, it takes place within 24 hours of approval of the post

Sometimes it does, but certainly not always, @balshehri .
It would be helpful if you would use the tagging tool when replying to someone here on Connect. Type @ followed by the username. Type slowly. Then we get an e-mail notification and you are more likely to get a prompt reply.

Hi @balshehri I need a bit more information, can you please tell me more about what you mean by “accepting dozens of additions” - do you mean you have made edits and they have been approved?

For edits, the points are added to your total when the edit is approved and added to the Map. Usually within 24 hours of the approval email you will see the points.
For reviews and photos it is generally straight away but there are times when its slower.
Maps is also a distributed system, so you may see the points, then your app connects to a different data store that is not yet updated and you see them drop only to return hours later. As you can imagine keeping this data up to date for 170 million people globally is challenging.
