If you love trains then you are going to love this Train themed hotel Depot Inn & Suites. The entire property is loaded with memorabilia, and is steeped in train history. From the lobby with hundreds of books related to the history of trains, to the 24/7 monitors of the route schedule and a real-time view of the tracks and La Plata station, to the fascinating hallway museum, to the relaxing overlook (with fireplace) right next to the tracks.
Depot Inn & SuitesThe overlook is less than a 1/2 mile walk (though the path is also big enough for a car) down an abandoned right-of-way, and the enclosed part of the overlook has messages from hundreds of visitors (bring your marker, just keep the message family-friendly). The highlight of the hotel is when the front desk triggers the water stop at the pool - just like the steam engines did in the 1800s. It’s about a mile walk to town right across the tracks from the train station!
