Top Movers & Shakers in 2023

Of the different sets of Top 100 Local Guide Leaderboards posted on Connect, for various reasons, the monthly Movers & Shakers is quite popular (see for example the comment here by @Mo_TravelleerX ). As their name suggests, the monthly Movers & Shakers leaderboards provide an analysis of the top Local Guides actively contributing and achieving both the most points and views from photos, star photos, star videos and star 360 sphere contributions on Maps in the previous month. The leaderboards give some indication as to who are the top Local Guides out there pounding the pavements guiding and impacting on their community most.

Well for some time now, I and a number of other Local Guides including @Lukas_1 have had the idea that it would be great to see who were the top movers & shakers in the past year and this is precisely what this post is all about. To be included on these leaderboards, there are certain rules to be followed and you can read about them in the readme section.

If you’re not listed in the Movers & Shakers leaderboards and believe that you should be then you can make this happen by registering and it’s simple to do, just hit this link or if you need some help then add a comment in this post and someone will jump in to help you.

Reading the 2023 Movers & Shakers leaderboards

Briefly, this is what you need to know about the leaderboards in this post. For more details about the Top 100 leaderboards see the leaderboard documentation:

1. Simply stated, the term Movers & Shakers in this post is used to describe the Local Guides that have achieved the most in terms of overall Local Guide points, photo views or star views over the past year. Therefore, the leaderboards in this post indicate how active each participating Local Guide has been over the year as well as the performance of their photos, videos and 360 spheres, and their respective stars in terms of views over that period. The following simple example will be used to explain the different metrics used in the 2023 Movers & Shakers leaderboards.

   Sarah, a Level 8 Local Guide, uses the T100 System and updates her data on the 28th of each and every month. For simplicity of explanation, she updates her data every 30 days! The following table summarizes her key data as at 28 December:

   (a) The Delta Points shown in the 2023 Movers & Shakers leaderboards is the value of the points earned by a Local Guide over the past year. In this way, Sarah’s 2023 Delta Points is 15,000 [ 115,000 - 100,000 ]^*.

   (b) The % Delta Points is the value of the points earned by a Local Guide over the past year expressed as a percentage. Therefore, Sarah’s 2023 % Delta Points is 15% [ (15,000/100,000)*100 ].

   (c) The Delta Views is the absolute value of the total photo views gained by a Local Guide over the past year. Thus, Sarah’s Delta Views for 2023 is 10m [ 30m - 20m ]^*.

   (d) The % Delta Views is the value of the total views gained by a Local Guide over the past year expressed as a percentage. Therefore, Sarah’s 2023 % Delta Views is 50% [ (10m/20m)*100 ].

   (e) The Delta Views/Photo is the average photo views gained per photo by a Local Guide in the past year and for comparative purposes, this gives a simple measure of the overall quality of a Local Guide’s photos in terms of views gained per photo; the higher the Delta Views/Photo the higher the quality of the photos! Therefore, Sarah has a 2023 Delta Views/Photo of 18,182 [ 10m/550 ].

   (f) The Delta Views/Day is the average photo views gained per day by a Local Guide in the past year and for comparative purposes, this is another metric that gives a simple measure of the overall quality of a Local Guide’s photos in terms of views gained per day; the higher the Delta Views/Day the higher the quality of the photos! Therefore, Sarah has a 2023 Delta Views/Day of 27,624 [ 10m/365 ].

   (g) The Delta Star Views is similar to the Delta Views however in this case, it represents the views gained over the past year by a Local Guide’s most viewed photo, or star photo. Therefore, Sarah’s 2023 Delta Star Views is 2m [ 10m - 8m ]^*

   (h) The Delta Star Views/Day is simply the average Delta Star Views per day over the past year. Therefore, Sarah’s star photo has a Delta Star Views/Day of 5,479 [ 2m / 365 ]. This metric gives a simple up-to-date measure of the quality of our star photo in terms of views gained per day^*.

2. If you are a participant in the Points, Photo Views, Star Photos and Country leaderboards and didn’t update your data in both December 2022 and December 2023 and in time for the leaderboards posted here then you will obviously not be included in the Movers & Shakers leaderboards.

3. If you were a new participant on the Top 100 Leaderboards during 2023 then you will not be included in the Movers and Shakers leaderboards in this post simply because you do not have a prior year’s history.

4. In summary, the Movers & Shakers leaderboards only include those Local Guides who regularly update and have especially done so over the last year. It’s all about creating that level playing field and comparing apples with apples.

5. Where shown, [ ] around leaderboard sequence numbers indicate that this Local Guide is a new participated on the Top 100 Local Guides leaderboards.

6. An asterisk (*) shown after a Connect Username indicates that that Local Guide is a Connect Moderator.

7. Double asterisks (**) shown after a Connect Username indicates that that Local Guide is a Googler.

8. Selecting any of the Connect Usernames will take you to that Local Guide’s Connect Profile.

9. Hovering over a Local Guide’s username will display the integration number that integrates that Local Guide’s details on the Leaderboards System and Connect; the umbilical chord if you will between the two disparate systems.

10. Local Guides included in the leaderboards must check their entries for any errors. If you should find any errors or omissions, please add the details in a comment on this post.

    • Please note that making comparisons using metrics such as delta points and delta views must be done carefully. In my view it is better to use points per day or views per day for comparative purposes and you will find these in the Core Vitals section of the T100 Leaderboards System!

A BIG congratulations to all you top 2023 movers & shakers. As usual there are just too many to individually take one’s hat off to however a special mention has to go to Sam the @abermans with his stellar knockout performances in both points and photo views. Well done Sam. You have truly been a 2023 mover & shaker.

It’s leaderboards like these that show us who is leaping ahead. I do have to add, @tony_b it’s great to see that your hardware store red star making the all time 2023 star photos movers & shakers list; a much better performance than my red star.

@AdamGT What do you mean by “the all time 2023 star photos movers & shakers list”? Does that represent the change for the whole year between January and December? Your introductory paragraphs still speak of the change between the current month and the preceding month, but my star photo certainly didn’t get 3000 views in December.

This is a great idea @AdamGT , I’m stoked to be listed. It’s crazy to see that @abermans & @MortenCopenhagen & @jayasimha78 & @DshottDennis each, basically, became Level 10s all over again in just a year. And I know there are more who just didn’t make the list! It’s taken me years to get to this point .

Thanks for the appreciation @JustJake and I couldn’t agree with you more, it is really something special and gives us all a great BIG picture view of what the monthly leaderboards have been showing us incrementally. There are certainly some interesting stories to tell here and I and I hope all T100 participants will do the needed checking as to be honest, this was somewhat of a last minute rush job.

Thanks for the explanation of your update to the “read me” notes, @AdamGT . At first I thought it was my fault for doing this on my phone near midnight last night. It definitely reads “top movers & shakers in the past year” now that I’m wide awake and reading it on my computer this morning. I love this idea.

Regarding my “red star”, this does prove something I’ve been saying all along. With my total Delta Views for the year being 3,388 I’m at 282 views per month or 9 views per day. Yet the Star Photo Views History in the Top100 Core Vitals chart reports my average every month as just above 1,200 views per day. This shows the stark difference between a historical average on a nearly 5 year old photo including its early first year, and the true current average when it is being viewed very seldomly.

I’m glad that you’ve created an overall leaderboard for movers and shakers for 2023. But I wanted to ask you what’s the reason for me not being included? Did I miss a data update in November? Thank you!

Hi @Lukas_1 and thanks for your question as it will interest others I’m sure.

Firstly, because of the problems I had with adding and integrating video views into the Leaderboards and the consequent delay in posting all the usual monthly Leaderboard posts, I rushed into both determining who qualified and hence should be included in each of the yearly movers & shakers leaderboards and then creating and posting these boards. Because of this I may have made mistakes so I do need everyone to check their data, and carefully. Just as an example, I myself am included in both the 2023 Photo Views and Star Photo Movers & Shakers Leaderboards but not in the Points board

Secondly, as stated in the readme section, to be included in the yearly boards you must have updated your data at least in both December 2022 and December 2023 and unless you’re a VIP 10, T100 System user then the best way to check this is to check the November and December 2022 Leaderboard posts for each of the relevant metrics (i.e. Points, Photo Views, Star Photo). Of course, video views, star videos and star 360 spheres aren’t included because they were not included in the Leaderboards back in November/December 2022.

Wouldn’t something basic like making a sum of previous 12 months (skipping the ones that weren’t filled) work as well?
