Brasília is the capital of Brazil and it´s not the most desired city when it comes to tourism, it´s not a big city, it does n´t have a beach and there aren´t many options to do if you are looking for great nightlife, living here is amazing though.
Unfortunately, what people don´t know is that Brasília has one the most beautiful sky in the world, sunsets and sunrises are incredibly amazing. What makes it so beautiful is the weather, the dry season in Brasília lasts 4 months starting in May and finishing in September, but sometimes it goes way more finishing only in November. All that time without any drop of water makes the city a little bit dusty and that’s what makes the sky so special, the light reflecting in the dusty air creates so many colors in the sky that you can´t believe, one day the sky is totally pink, the other is totally orange and keep changing randomly. For that reason, I am going to share my top 5 places to appreciate the sky in Brasília.
5. Anywhere you are
Taking into consideration that the city is prohibited by law to build buildings higher than 20 meters, anywhere you are during the sunrise or the sunset will be awesome. Don´t forget to be careful when you are driving, cause the sky really catches your attention.
4. Catedral Rainha da Paz
This place is an old little church in the middle of two roads and what makes the sunset in this place so beautiful is that you can appreciate the contrast between the sky, the church, and the cars.
3. Praça do Cruzeiro
Very close to the previous spot, this place is located in the top of a higher area in the city allowing to have a full view of the sky with no distractions, perfect to enjoy a sunset.
2. Parque das Garças
We can´t talk about spots to enjoy the sky without mentioning at least one ideal for sunrise and for the reason Parque das Garças is here, located in front of the lake the sun rises in the horizon reflecting in it, for 2 hours you can enjoy various moments of the sky, from the very dark until the full bright sunny day the lake just looks amazing.
1. Ermida Dom Bosco
This is for sure my favorite place in the city and for the same reason I love Parque das Garças, I love Ermida Dom Bosco. Both Places are in front of the lake and being able to enjoy the reflection of the sky in it is speechless. Ermida Dom Bosco also has a wooden deck to sit and you can count on some important architectural monuments of Brasília in the horizon, such as the soccer museum, the TV Tower and the JK Bridge.
If you are coming to Brasília for at least one day, try to visit one of these places or take some time to enjoy the sky anywhere you are and you won’t regret. I live in the city for more than 20 years and I still get impressed with the sky, pictures aren´t enough to show how beautiful it is, although you can have an idea of what I am talking about.
