Introduction:
In September 2023 I started regularly posting a dedicated leaderboard post on star videos, that is our most viewed video (see the post here) and on this, for quite some time now Local Guides including @TerryPG , @Mikeinthefalls , @abermans and @Rednewt74 have been discussing the idea of yet another leaderboard post but one dedicated to all videos and not just the star, similar to what we’ve had for some time now, dedicated to photos (see the post here). This topic also came up in discussion during the The Leaderboards, Where to from now virtual meetup held on December 3 and spilled over in discussion starting in the comment by @MattGatlin . I offered some alternatives but the consensus of Local Guides was that a dedicated post is what is needed.
Well here it is, the inaugural Video Views leaderboard post dedicated to video contributions on Google Maps, and more specifically to the views these videos rack up. Given the push that video is being given by Google, my thoughts are that it’s probably the right time for this so let’s give it a shot and see if together we can make this post as successful in bringing those Local Guides interested in video contributions together in the usual fun and friendly competitive framework that the Leaderboards provide.
In the usual Leaderboard post style, this dedicated video post consists of a series of leaderboards showcasing the video view counts of participating Local Guides from around the world and you can also join in. In time there will be a leaderboard for each Local Guide level and in this way you don’t have to be a “top gun” Level 10 Local Guide with a mega million views to participate! So, whether you’re an entry level Local Guide or from a small country, town or village, or a top level Local Guide from London, New York or New Delhi, you can participate and showcase your video prowess and it’s simple to do! If you want to jump on board, then hit this link to get started.
Is this just a competition?
While there is an inherent competitive element within them, the Leaderboards are more than just seeing who has the “best” photos or videos, or the most photo or video views, far from it! They have been specifically designed to motivate us, help us to monitor our contributions and performance, and show us how to improve and make better contributions so that we achieve better results, and all in a fun and enjoyable way! If this can be done then the objective of the Leaderboards will have been achieved, mission will be accomplished! So if you haven’t as yet join in and enjoy!
Happy New Year
