Introduction:
As Local Guides, it’s often amazing which of all of our great photos on Google Maps is our star photo, stars . It’s an update on the 8 January. 2023 Top 100 Star Photo Leaderboards post and contains a set of leaderboards that, as well as showcasing the star photos of hundreds of Local Guides, it presents a very detailed analysis of their performance. Whether you’re a Level 10 or a Level 5 Local Guide, we all have a star photo , so you can join in to showcase your star, and it’s simple to do. Simply hit this link and register or if you want to know more then see this How-to post by @AZ_2021 .
So what can you learn from the Star Photos Leaderboards?
Well from the very detailed analysis of the star photos of the hundreds of participating Local Guides you can learn a lot what type of places and what type of photos seem to get the most views on Google Maps and remember, views are important as they indicate how helpful your photos are to Maps users.
Is this a competition?
While there is an inherent competitive element within them, the aim of these leaderboards is to motivate us, help us to think about and monitor our contributions and performance, and show us how we can improve and make better contributions so that we achieve better results all in a fun and enjoyable way! If this can be done then these leaderboards will have achieved their objective; mission accomplished!

Reading the Star Photos leaderboards
Briefly, this is what you need to know about the leaderboards in this post. For more details see the leaderboard documentation :
The leaderboards present details about the star photos of hundreds of participating Local Guides from all over the world. As well as an overall leaderboard, you will see leaderboards for different Local Guide levels which lend themselves to better comparisons of your star photo with your peers. Finally, there’s a leaderboard ranking the top 100 star photos by average views per day which gives an indication on how good your star photo is.
As well as the star views and the date uploaded onto Maps, each listing on the leaderboards shows the Maps Category, and a description (e.g. Storefront, Building Park) of the respective Local Guide’s star photo .
If the Maps Category of a star photo is shown as a link, then hovering over that link will show you the name of the relevant Place of Interest, if this information was provided by the respective Local Guide, and selecting that link will take you to a screenshot with details of that POI as stored on the Local Guides, 2023 Star Photos post, a “photo album” if you will, of star photos .
If the Maps Category of a star photo is shown on a colored background then that star photo has been selected as one of the best that meets the formatting requirements as specified in the Local Guides, 2023 Star Photos post. Select that star photo’s category and see why it has been rated as one of the best and read more about that star photo on the “photo album ” post.
Selecting any of the Connect Usernames will take you to that Local Guide’s Connect Profile.
Preceding some of the leaderboards, you may see a number of featured star photos. If so, these are a selection from those that best meet the requirements as detailed in the Local Guides, 2023 Star Photos post.
Where shown,
An asterisk (*) shown after a Connect Username indicates that that Local Guide is a Connect Moderator.
Double asterisks (**) shown after a Connect Username indicates that that Local Guide is a Googler.
A ? or the words “Not set” in a cell indicates that the respective value cannot be determined or hasn’t been provided by or for the respective Local Guide.
Local Guides included on the leaderboards must check their entries for any errors. If you should find any errors or omissions, please add the details in a comment on this post. Regarding omissions, please note point 9 above.

Top 100 Star Photos Average Views/Day Leaderboard (February 2023)
The average daily views metric gives you a good indication on how good a star photo currently is, or if you like, how popular the particular place of interest that the photo represents is, in attracting views at this current point in time.
It’s always interesting to see that you don’t have to be a top gun Level 10 Local Guide to be or even lead on this leaderboard. It’s all about the quality of your star photo ! So hats off to everyone that makes it onto this leaderboard.
I myself have been working hard to improve my position on this leaderboard and to do this, I have been learning from the star photos of others on this leaderboard, changing and improving the type of photos that I have been taking and adding to Maps, and finally, using this leaderboard and especially the powerful star photo charts on the Top 100 System , month-by-month to monitor the impact of the changes that I have been making.

Regarding featured star photos shown in this post, as you can see we’re trying hard to get a consistent and easy to read format. We’re getting there but we still have a way to go. In this regard, if your star photo has been featured then compare the layout in this post with that in the 2023 Star photo album post to see if you can spot any changes that you can make to your post to improve it. If your star photo</em isn’t featured here then perhaps you might learn from those that are on how you might be able to improve yours to better fit in with the overall look and feel that we’re aiming for to give all readers of this post a much better user experience.
As usual, everyone on the star photo leaderboards must check them for any errors or omissions.
Here’s an example of a problem , in fact it’s quite a serious problem and it’s for this reason that I’m mentioning it here with the hope that will make everyone aware of the importance of paying attention to detail and checking your data carefully.
If you look at @Benjet415 's star photo screenshot caption here , you will see that he copied and pasted more words for his caption from the T100 System than he should have. However, much more serious, if you look closely at that his caption (highlighted from a Lucy report today) I noted that Ben had set his screenshot date to be the same as the date the star photo was uploaded onto Maps. The screenshot date is obviously incorrect and as @LightRich recently discovered, and this was discussed off Connect, that’s very problematic as it will seriously negatively impact on Ben’s results on the star photo leaderboards! For example, you will note that Ben is not listed on the Average Views per Day leaderboard !!! Ben, you need to sort this out ASAP!
