Introduction:
As Local Guides, it’s often amazing which of all of our great photos on Google Maps is the photo having the most views (I started calling this our star photo ) and this post is about this very topic. It’s an update on the Leaderboards of the Top 100 Most Viewed Photos post of 31 January, 2021 and contains a set of leaderboards that as well as showing the star photos of well over 200 Local Guides, presents some interesting analysis.
No you don’t have to be a “top gun” Level10 with a mega million views to participate!
The leaderboards have been specifically designed so that Local Guides at any level can participate, and you’ll see many do. So whether you are an entry level Local Guide or from a small town or village, or a top level Local Guide from London, New York, Paris or New Delhi, you can join in and it’s simple to do! You’ll find all the information you need and more here .
Is this just a competition?
While there is an inherent competitive element within them, the aim of these leaderboards is to motivate us, help us to think about and monitor our contributions and performance, and show us how to improve and make better contributions so that we achieve better results, in a fun and enjoyable way! If this can be done then these leaderboards will have achieved their objective, the mission be accomplished!
Note: The screenshots of the star photos included in the animated cover image of this post are the copyright of @AdrianLunsong , @GYours , @katydarhel , @LuigiZ , @PennyChristie , @Rex_Roscoe and @121788

Who’s next to be added?
The table below lists the Local Guides that have submitted their entry form to participate in the Top 100 Star Views Leaderboards . The following explains this table:
Because these leaderboards are created and being maintained manually, after you submit your participation form it can take approximately 48 hours before you are added to the Who’s next to be added table below. It’s a good idea to note the date and time when you submit your entry and if it’s after the last date that this table was updated (see the date below the table) then just wait until it is updated. If however you submitted your entry before the last date that this table was updated then let me know by way of adding a comment on this post.
On first seeing your name on this table you will know that your entry form has been received. You need to make sure that you have added your screenshot of your star photo in a comment on this post with the details about your “star photo” as specified during the data entry.
Your entry form and comment will then be checked. If there are any issues you will see an
Once all issues are cleared you will see an leaderboard documentation .

1 - Top 100 Star Photos Leaderboard of All participating Local Guides (September, 2021)
Will tidy this up in the next day or so but briefly:
As usual, please, please, please check your entry.
Because photo view counts for individual photos is private data, it has always been the responsibility of participants on these leaderboards to provide the updated view count (star views ) of their star photo . Previously this was done by way of a comment on the leaderboards post but now it is done by way of this data entry form .
Selecting any of the Connect Usernames will take you to that Local Guide’s Connect Profile
Hovering over any of the Maps Category entries should show the name of the relevant Place of Interest.
Selecting the Maps Category will take you to that Local Guide’s star photo .

Hi @AdamGT
I’m looking forward to reading your definition of SPQ. I have looked in several posts to no avail.
Cheers and thanks for all your efforts.
Morten
PS the index is already updated.

Dear @AdamGT , I am very glad that you have published Top 100 Star Photo Leaderboard . It is a great pride for me to take 46th place in the general list (And it needs to understand that you have analyzed 220 Local Guides in total). But still I have a question. It is possible that I missed some of your instructions, but I do not understand what the SPQ is.

Thank you for sharing my dear friend @AdamGT
Best Regards

I dare to assume that SPQ is the STAR PHOTO QUANTITY. This value is directly related to the Average Views per Photo . All our photos are average, above average and below average views per photo. Accordingly, there are photo donors, and there are recipients. So, a star photo is always a donor. And the given value of the SPQ is how many photos the star photo is the donor for.
To find out for how many photos a star photo is a donor, we divide the Star Photo Views by the Average Views per Photo .
Formula:Star Photo Views /Average Views per Photo
For example, the Average Views per Photo of Adam at the moment is 8712.
For the sake of reliability, consider one more example. I take the MortenCopenhagen data. The Average Views per Photo of Morten at the moment is 34,991. According to the same formula
@AdamGT , am I right? @MortenCopenhagen , what do you think about this?

Wow @AdamGT I see you have been very busy (still) with this project. Looks good nut I need to study to find out what it all means.
Cheers, Erik

Hi @AdamGT ,
Thanks again for all the work you have been doing.
I remember how much I enjoyed being part of the Leaderboard when I was offered to.
I wanted to let you know that the numbers for my account have changed a bit, moreover my rank too, I have moved from the 6th to the 7th “grade” (see below).
I won’t blame you though for sure, because if I remember well you kinda had to do all by hand.
I guess it’s still the case as numbers don’t seem to get updated automatically.
I am not saying it’s such a serious topic but I thought it would be useful to tell you about that.
Thanks again,
Bye,
@RenanSavidan

Hi @RenanSavidan
The days when Adam collected the data by hand are over. Now we need to fill out a Google form ourselves to update our data.
Start by reading:
How to read and join the Leaderboards.

Hi @katydarhel
It sounds like a plausible explanation of SPQ, but it makes little sense to me when trying to understand the meaning of it. So people with a high average views per photo get a lower score. What should be the rational for that? So people shooting low quality photos on average and suddenly their Star photo gets a lot of views will rank higher than those who regularly takes photos that attract a lot of views? Sorry, I don’t get it.
Cheers
Morten

Hi @MortenCopenhagen . First, I need to know what @AdamGT thinks about my guesses. But if this is so, and my assumption is correct, then I absolutely agree with you that such a statistics does not really matter. It seemed to me that having a low value of this SPQ is not even bad at all.

Hi @MortenCopenhagen ,
Yeap what I meant is mainly nothing is updated automatically.
I did too communicated my numbers (makes a while).
I guess I didn’t know I had to update them by myself, thanks for the information, I am going to take a look.
