Top 100 Photo Views Leaderboards (July 2021)

As well as being Connect’s 5th Birthday, July is the first anniversary of these photo views leaderboards so hooray, hooray! Can you believe it, we made it? It’s been one year! And what a journey it’s been, sheeesh! Yes this all started when many of us were in lockdown or travel restricted and thus unable to get out there doing our usual guiding. While in lock down I needed something different to do and while browsing through photos of my travels, the idea of leaderboards sprung to my mind. I must have been having a nightmare lol. Only joking Yes I kicked it off in July 2020 and through amazing engaging discussion with fellow Local Guides, and I’m pleased to say that most are still with us here today, and with the continued input of ideas, the leaderboards evolved into what they are today, fun, competitive and motivational, yet educational and full of interesting and different ways of looking at our photo views performance. If you want to learn how to improve your photos and get better photo views, then this is a good place to start. What’s certain is that…you’ll get hooked, you’ll get motivated, you’ll have fun, and you’ll learn heaps about photo on Google Maps!

As most will know by now, there are two streams. The first is dedicated to what I called “star photos” and for each one of us, our “star photo” is that single photo with the most views on Google Maps. It’s usually a surprise which photo turns out to be our star! If you haven’t already done so, you can find out more about this and submit your own “star photo” by visiting the Leaderboards of the Top 100 Most Viewed Photos post. The second stream, and this is where you are now, looks at the photo view performance of all your photos and if you want to learn about or share your own photo views achievements, then this is the right place! Hundreds of Local Guides participate and you can too and what’s more, you do not have to be a “top gun” Level 10 Local Guide with millions of photo views!! In fact, this month a Level 7 Local Guide tops the chart! Let me explain.

These leaderboards have been specifically designed so that Local Guides at any level can participate, and you’ll see many do. So whether you are an entry level Local Guide or from a small town or village, or a top level Local Guide from London, New York, Paris or New Delhi, you can join in and it’s simple to do! Just submit this form! Within a day or two after submitting your entry form you will be added to the Who’s next to be added list and you should check this for further instructions. Then sit back to be added in the next update of the leaderboards in early August. To find out more, you can read the following:

So I hope you all enjoy our first anniversary edition of the Top 100 Photo Views Leaderboards which follows on from the Top 100 Photo Views Leaderboards of June, 2021. Keep in mind that these posts are more than just seeing who has the best photos or the most photo views. Being able to look at our photo performance in different ways as well as in relative terms to that of other Local Guides and our peers in a fun and friendly way, posts like these are a way of showing us how we can improve our personal contributions, improve the quality of being a Local Guide, and thus lead to better information on Google Maps; it’s a win-win-win. Just after 4PM (AEST) today, 28 August, I temporarily closed the data entry form for joining and updating of data on the Photo Views Leaderboards. If you visit the form you will see the message below but please don’t panic and contact me thinking it’s a mistake It will be re-opened again ASAP

Who’s next to be added?

The table below lists the Local Guides that have expressed an interest to participate on the Top 100 Photo Views leaderboards. The following points explain this table:

Firstly, because these leaderboards are created and being maintained manually, after you submit your participation form it can take up to 48 hours before you are added to the Who’s next to be added table below. It’s a good idea to note the date and time when you submit your entry and if it’s after the last date that this table was updated (see the date below the table) then just wait until it is updated. If however you submitted your entry before the date that this table was updated then let me know by way of adding a comment on this post.
On first seeing your name on this table you will know that your entry form has been received and checked. If there are any issues you will see a note against your name on the table below for your attention.
Once all issues are cleared you will see a against your name indicating that you are ready to be added during the next update of the Leaderboards ~~at the beginning of the next month~~ as indicated in the posting schedule in the documentation.

As you know, the leaderboards in this post are about photo views and have nothing to do with Local Guide points! While you are waiting for confirmation that you are ready to be added in the next update you might like to check out the new Points based leaderboards

Given that we’re now launching a new and very much better and improved way to manage the Top 100 series of Leaderboards, I want to give everyone as much advance warning as I can about my planned schedule of posting the next leaderboards. For the details on the planned schedule please see here.

If you don’t have a green check mark against your name in the table below then to be included in the leaderboards you need to use this form to update your data. When you return to the form you will see a message and an Edit your response link which you should select to proceed. I strongly recommend that you do this in advance of next week to avoid the last minute rush and at the end of the week you will not be able to update your data as the leaderboards will be closed until they are posted here on Connect!!!

1 - Top 100 Photo Views Leaderboard of All participating Local Guides (July, 2021)

The leaderboard below shows the top 100 photo views of all participating Local Guides as at 1 July, 2021 and follows on from the previous equivalent leaderboard of 1 June, 2021. When reading this leaderboard these explanatory notes may be helpful. The leaderboards immediately following this show this overall leaderboard broken down into individual leaderboards for each Local Guide level so that you can readily see and compare your photo views relative to that of your peers. The overall leaderboard is then shown in Average Views per Day, Average Views per Photo and % Change order. Taking all the variables of these first 10 leaderboards into account, a final leaderboard shows an overall ranking of participants in terms of photo views. 2 - The exclusive Billion Photo Views Club (July, 2021)

I decided that anyone with a BILLION views needed to be better highlighted on our leaderboards than had been to date and so I created what I have called the Billion Photo Views Club, and the name says it all. The leaderboard of all Local Guides participating here and with a BILLION+ photo views on Google Maps as at 1 July, 2021 is shown below.

It’s just amazing to think that anyone can get a BILLION views on their photo contributions but there you have it, you can and just think, you don’t have to be a Level 10 Local Guide to be in this club!!! Congratulations to both Herve and Torbin on their very impressive achievement. It certainly gives us some idea of the amazing potential we have when we make photo contributions on Google Maps. How did these two amazing Local Guides get to this level. Well I’ve worked it out and in my opinion it’s really simple. Take great photos and just take one click at a time. And that’s exactly how you and I are going to join this club. We know where we want to get to and we know how to do it. Wishing you well. Hi all

I’m going cross eyed here and I sense I’ve already made one or two errors. For example, compare July Level 8 and Level 9 leaderboards with those of June!!! Lots of missing Local Guides in each table. They could not all have suddenly levelled up to Level 9 and 10. I’ll have a break and move onto something light before some dreamtime and resume in the morning. Sorry however it’s best I check my data again before publishing any more leaderboards. Thanks for your patience and understanding!
