Introduction:
When it comes to media contributions on Google Maps, video has clearly become the new frontier. Therefore, measuring and analyzing their impact compared to those of fellow Local Guides, especially our peers, can help us improve the “quality” of our video contributions. This is precisely what this post is all about.

In the usual Leaderboard post style, this dedicated video post consists of a series of leaderboards showcasing the video view counts of participating Local Guides from around the world and you can also join in. You don’t have to be a “top gun” Level 10 Local Guide with a mega million views to participate! So, whether you’re an entry level Local Guide or from a small country, town or village, or a top level Local Guide from London, New York or New Delhi, you can participate and showcase your video prowess and it’s simple to do! If you want to jump on board, then hit this link to get started. Alternatively, if you need any help then add a comment in this post and someone will jump in to assist you.

Is this just a competition?

While there is an inherent competitive element within them, the Leaderboards are more than just seeing who has the “best” photos or videos, or the most photo or video views, far from it! They have been specifically designed to motivate us, help us to monitor our contributions and performance, and show us how to improve and make better contributions so that we achieve better results, and all in a fun and enjoyable way! If this can be done then the objective of the Leaderboards will have been achieved, mission will be accomplished! So if you haven’t as yet join in and enjoy!

How to Read the Video Views leaderboards (March, 2024)

Briefly, this is what you need to know about the leaderboards in this post. For more details see the leaderboard documentation and the Leaderboard System’s online context-sensitive help information.

  1. The leaderboards in this post present details about the video views of hundreds of participating Local Guides from all over the world. As well as an overall leaderboard ranking the top 100 Local Guides by video views, you will see leaderboards for different Local Guide levels which provide you with direct comparisons of your video views achievements with that of your peers. There’s also a leaderboard that shows the top 100 Local Guides ranked by the Average Views/Video which gives a good indication of the overall “quality” of all videos taken by each Local Guide. This is simply calculated by dividing the Local Guide’s total video views value (impact) by the number of publicly visible contributed videos (volume). Of course the use of the term “quality” here refers to the attractiveness of the videos to the Google AI and the viewing public.
  2. Where shown, around leaderboard sequence numbers indicate that this is the first time that the Local Guide has participated on the Top 100 Local Guides leaderboards.
  3. Where shown, ( ) around leaderboard sequence numbers indicate that this Local Guide levelled up/down onto this leaderboard.
  4. An asterisk (*) shown after a Connect Username indicates that that Local Guide is a Connect Moderator.
  5. Double asterisks (**) shown after a Connect Username indicates that that Local Guide is a Googler.
  6. Hovering over a Local Guide’s username will display the integration number that integrates that Local Guide’s details on the Leaderboards System and Connect; the umbilical chord if you will between the two disparate systems.
  7. Selecting a Connect Usernames will take you to that Local Guide’s Connect Profile.
  8. A superscript following a Local Guide’s username and the views value shown on a background color indicates that some of that Local Guide’s data has been set to private. The Leaderboards System uses 8 different superscripts to indicate the varying states of a Local Guide’s profile however only 3 superscripts will likely ever be shown on the Leaderboards. In all the remaining 5 cases the Local Guide has been deleted from participation. On the Video Views Leaderboards you will only ever see the following superscripts used:
    [1] indicates that the number of photos and photo views values are private.
    [3] indicates that both the number of photos and photo views values and the number of reviews and ratings values are private.
  9. A ? or the words “Not set” in a cell indicates that the respective value hasn’t been provided by or cannot be determined for the respective Local Guide.
  10. The data for the leaderboards in this post was read at 3:30 PM on April 2, 2024 (UTC).
  11. If you’re a participating Local Guide you must check the leaderboards for any errors or omissions and if you find any, then please add the details in a comment on this post. Regarding omissions, please note point 7 above.

I can see why this was Lucy’s pick for this month’s feature video. Perfectly formatted with a perfect 150/150 formatting score on the video album but I had to have a chuckle when I read @tony_b 's description. He described it has being a video of his lunch one afternoon. All good so far but it’s the next bit that had me ROFLMFAO. Anthony goes on to say "the food and the venue were chosen entirely for the purpose of this Maps Video Top100 project". Now is that a hot tip on how to get a great new star? He went on to say that he wasn’t so happy with the results but his video surpassed the views of his previous star video. This compelled me to ask, why wouldn’t you be happy about that? Congratulations Anthony on your new and featured star video!

Thanks @AZ_2021 I also love theMillion Video Views club even though I’m a long way off from joining it :sob: However, I’m determined. BTW, I’m thinking of increasing the Club’s entry “fee” threshold. I know some will be unhappy but what do you think about 25 Million?
