Top 100 Google Maps Local Guides Photos (June, 2025)

@curatorofmemory I have noted the problem of missing Local Guides (see here) and am investigating this. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

@AdamGT ,

Thanks for doing the homework on my numbers. @ 605M views pre format change, adding an additional 400M after, without adding more than 1% more photos during that time is testament that quality of work AND snapping the right photos will still get you to 1B photos.

@TerryPG @shunsader I know my numbers don’t compare to your 300M or 200M, but here’s my progress from February 2024 until June 2025:
Number of Photos 601 to 1191
Total Photo Views 16,080,670 to 24,035,016
Difference 7,954,346

So that’s approximately 16M in 5 years and an additional 8M in 1 year (with double the amount of photos).

Thanks for clarifying that, Steve. I noted the reference by @AdamGT that you ā€œcontinued to pound the pavement with a relentless focusā€ but I know you had stopped being so active. Massive gain, just coasting along reaping the dividends off of your prior investment.

Like i said in several posts, yes, its just my 2c…work on photo views, and the points will come. I try to visit a new mall, beach town, or historical downtown every few weeks, and take photos of every shop. Its fun, social, and i get to do photography:).

For me, this is actually important for my mental health, so its a win win there. Not sure about your time, family, work, nd all that jazz. But even if you end up near the bottom of tier 10 with views, thats still great!

Hehe, i tend to do this more than i probably should. I keep hoping when i find the zero viewed photos OR photos without an actual business attached AND DELETE THEM, it will remove my private photos. Never does!

That’s interesting. I guess the only way to figure it out is to scroll side by side with your account open in an incognito window. However, as @PrasadVR recently brought to my attention, the photos are not always in the same order between your view and an outsider’s view. Very odd and frustrating.

@JustJake i use my computer and match to my cell phone in incognito mode, and for the most part they are in order, however not always. So i have to write down the names missing, and sometimes i actually find them dozens of photos below. Imsince i have over 18,000 photos, i decided not to do this anymore lol.

@curatorofmemory further to my previous comment, I can now advise that you are not included in the level 9 photoviews leaderboard because of condition #8 detailed in the readme section. We all would love to see you included in the photoviews leaderboards.

@Annaelisa, thank you for your checking and for your persistence however, they are not the numbers that I have!

Crazy as it may seem @StevenBerlin, let me restate something I’ve said before. Some contributors on the Leaderboards are photographers who post to Google Maps, while some of us are Maps users who’ve been enticed by Google (and by @AdamGT) to take photographs. I’m not a photographer, but I like numbers.

Some of us are getting our points from other contributions such as Answers, Edits, Drawing Roads, and Adding Places. I can now see how that would be the reason for an LG landing on a higher level without the corresponding number of Photo Views.

time - limited
family - we do have some other commitments
work - full time desk job, less opportunity than when I worked outdoors

@AdamGT . Thanks for all the help. Being new to the system i forgot to do that. In next few days going to spend quite sometime to ace up the system.

Yes you are new but you’re doing well @curatorofmemory. Always make sure that you follow the steps on the System (especially any warning messages) and if in doubt check the online context sensitive help and then if still unclear ask for clarification. It’s also a good a idea to read the readme section on each of the different Leaderboard streams.

Es sind die aktuellen Zahlen von Google Maps von @Jagannath098

Nachdem ich die Daten der Videos gesehen habe wundert mich nichts mehr, da ist keinerlei Übereinstimmung mit den aktuellen Daten von Google Maps.

I find it easier to use my computer with split screen. Left side could be regular view and right side be the incognito view.

I agree, @tony_b. For a long time, I used almost all windows in full screen, but find more and more cases, where seeing two or three windows side by side bring an advantage.

I also realized ā€œPhotos by dateā€ not only ignore the time, but the order may change also day by day. So, for discover the hidden photos, it would be more reliable and easier to analyze the underlying HTML/JavaScript code using a program, which I believe is possible.

Agreed. I took photos in college for the yearbook, but don’t even think of myself as a photographer. After taking over 28k pics for Maps, I still consider myself a contributor, not a photographer. It was a means to an end. The photos made edits easier, and provided a ā€˜most recent’ photo of the building, so as to prove it was still in business as such when I took the photo. - Steve @StevenBerlin

When i go on my photo trips, i always take at least two photos of each place. First, i take one to try and show the place, with address, and usually straight on. One for maps. Then I take a photographic image of the same store, still good for maps, but one i like, and might end up keeping. I like photography so for me it keeps it fun as well. Keeps my drive to do more i guess. I guess if i plan trips for this purpose, i must realky enjoy it. I think of maps as like a hobby.
