Top 100 Google Maps Local Guides Photos (December, 2024)

Always reply regardless Anthony as while I’m currently still on holidays, notwithstanding the fact that I have tons of messages, I many not always respond quickly enough to any specific message and as well as that, I’m known to totally miss some

Edited: I think there’s also mention of the answer to @ShreyaMusings’s question in the documentation.

Well done @Aravindchaudhari. That’s a very competitive list. You need to keep guiding, keep contributing and keep achieving to climb higher. Reading the Moving Up & Down the Leaderboards section of the documentation may interest you.

@tony_b,
Thanks for noticing. I believe that I was in the #1 spot for level 9 last month.

True about the variations from month to month. Perhaps some of this has to do with the frequency of updating, now that we’re being rewarded less from a views perspective. Although I’m not as active as some of ‘The Group’ here, I HAVE reached out to a number of individuals over the past couple of months. The feelings are all similar…the reduction views in combination with the challenges of a different interface makes it harder to find things, get DETAILED notifications, etc, has reduced consistent viewership, ie, even less updating of Adam’s T100 system. Although it’s a bit different for me (had to stop spending so much time with Maps and get back to ‘life’…I’m an all in type person when participating in projects), I still feel the same ‘pain’ other do.

Finding this post with my name in it was challenging. The email I get only has a link to Visit Topic to respond, which puts me at the top of Adam’s post for this month’s data. (Which you already know). Can’t even try the Ctrl-F to find you since a different Find feature pops up. - Steve

Sure  @AdamGT
Thank you again

Thank you for sharing the insight and the document. I wasn’t feeling well so just checked it. Thank you @AdamGT and @tony_b for the prompt response
Regards,

Amazing, dear friend @AdamGT,
Though you bite have automated a major portion of this project, still a lot of manual efforts are needed to bring these tables to us…
Highly appreciate…I really don’t know how we can thank you enough for this grand gift… Still, humbly… thank you.
Most sincerely

I share your sentiments @shunsader
Although I have various triggers in place, I didn’t realize you replied to me 3 days ago.

Hi Steve, the links are correct, but many, if not most times, the browser shows very briefly the correct target and than scrolls up to some random post. Very rarely, I do see a Back (or is it return?) button in the scroll bar.
If I assume, the target is a very recent post, I click the time at the bottom of the scroll bar (6h in my screenshot) which brings me to the most recent post:

(6h = most recent post was 6 hours ago and clicking Jan 6 brings to you to the first post.)

There is a trick! Pressing Ctrl-F the first time, brings the Search Connect popup, which I also don’t need most of the times. However, pressing Ctrl-F a second time, brings the browser’s search field in addition. You can use it, but if the Search Connect popup still disturbs, just click anywhere in the browser window to close it.

@WilfriedB,
The double Ctrl-F works perfectly. Would never think that double anything works, but it surprisingly does. @tony_b mentioned in his reply that “I have various triggers in place”. Can either of you elaborate on that?

Still having difficulty NOT seeing when someone mentions me, but flooded with posts from threads that I haven’t “Muted” yet.

Oh, also, thanks for helping me recognize the time scroll INITIALLY goes to the location it should go, but then some embedded coding takes it away from where it SHOULD LAND. @MortenCopenhagen , have you or other moderators noticed this? FEELS like a BUG…in need of a SMALL code change so people can actually use that link in the email to see what someone’s posted. Thanks all! - Steve

Thanks for your help! - Steve

Not sure, what exactly Tony had in mind, but very likely he means the various ways you can control your notifications. For example, by following another user or setting the tracking option for an entire category or tag or certain topics.
Did you see this Understand the new notifications system?
There also some settings in your profile.
Personally, I didn’t find the optimal settings yet and get more via the bell feed :bell: in the browser than as email.
Not sure, but being tagged by others, I only see at the bell notifications under Other Replies and not via email. You can tell by the form of the little decoration marked red in my screenshot:

Classic example, Wilfried. “Visit Topic” did NOT bring me to this post which is #48 of 51. It instead took me to #12 of 51 which was one of Adam’s leaderboards from 5 days ago. And I thought it depended on the other “last visit” feature, but my last visit is indeed at #47 of 51 so that didn’t explain it either.

@shunsader the explanation by @WilfriedB is correct. The new Connect utilizes the “following” function more than the previous one, so I had to learn to “follow” people. Then there are topics and tags, etc. Different things notify in different ways, so it’s a confusing mess of watching the bell, visiting the feed, or opening notification emails. Sorry if my rant didn’t explain anything better to you.

@tony_b, you’re not ranting anymore than I have over matters like this. At some point, when one of the ‘gurus’ has it all figured out, perhaps they could post and enlighten these loyal volunteers to help take the edge off the frustration.

OR, is this just a Google Loyalty Test, and we’re the test subjects?? Sometimes I feel that way. - Steve @WilfriedB @Rednewt74 @TerryPG (Does tagging help notify anyone anymore??)

OK…instead of deleting, I’m just updating my post…just stumbled on Morten’s post on how to get notifications HERE This should help a LOT. Thanks @MortenCopenhagen

Yes, I did get two notifications, one under the bell:

And also an email, which didn’t tell me why I got.

Yes Steve, the post by @MortenCopenhagen should be helpful to you.

Tonight I’m now discovering responses labelled as 2 days ago, so perhaps I’m still not getting it right.

Nice to see me in the Top 100 Level 10 again. Hell yeah!
