We are all familiar with the historical and world famous monuments of Agra. But some scenic monuments are still out of the reach of tourists. Most tourists are unable to reach due to lack of time. One such example of magnificent Mughal architecture is the tomb of Firoz Khan Khwajasara who was a transgender since birth.
Tomb Of Firoz Khan Khwajasara is situated close to the Agra Cantt at the Western side of the Firoz Khan Tank or popularly known as Tal Firoz Khan. He was the guardian of Shahjenha’s Harem and was faithful to the Mughal Emperor. He was positioned at the post of Diwan I Kul. This unique tomb was built by himself in his life time and he was buried in 1647 AD after his death. Its plan is having unique features and considered unique in the history of Mughal Architecture.
This tomb is two storeyed and built of red sandstone and a bit grey stone also. Displays the excellent fusion of Architecture. Main tomb is located in an octagonal chamber and having the beautifully carved archways which are supporting the semi circular dome which was having originally the glazed tiles. Mostly floral motifs and vases are carved. It displays the rich carvings and decorated stone brackets supporting the hang outs, projected and decorated borders of each panel and gateway is just superb. Gateway is having either side the arched niches and panels are richly carved. One panel is depicting the Lotus and Swan in between the two panels having the flower vases on exterior surface, can be seen from the terrace. To access the terrace stone steps are leading upwards. There are two pavilions which are having the sloping roofs which is pyramidal shape. Original tomb is located at the ground floor which can be accessed from the separate door though entry is restricted in the original tomb. For maintaining the fresh air in the original tomb all the eight sides stone screens are provided.
Water tank which was beautifying the elegant structure is populated and many houses are built. If going to visit this monument care taker who is residing nearby having the key and if faced any problem talk to the Officer incharge who is from ASI.
This is a magnificent monument adorned by the stone carvings. It’s marginally popular among the tourists. It’s a major attraction among the history buffs wanderers soulseekers heritage art and architecture lovers.
