Toledo, Spain. A memorable trip!

Toledo, also known as the "Imperial City”, was the capital of the ancient Visigothic kingdom from 542 AD to 725 AD, following the fall of the Roman Empire. The cultural influences of Christians, Muslims and Jews are reflected in the buildings and the environment.

Toledo has a long history in the production of bladed weapons, which are now popular souvenirs of the city. This city boomed to its economical peak during the 15th and 17th century just by making swords.

(Note: The picture of the swords was taken from the internet as I didn’t have one taken by myself. Sorry about that)

This is quite an irony on how an entire economy would survive by selling goods that could potentially end another humans survival. During the 20th century they shifted to making cavalry weapons, an advancement according to the needs of time.

I travelled to the old city, which is located on a mountaintop with a 150 degree view, surrounded on three sides by a bend in the Tagus river.

This place is an accumulation of historical sites, including the Alcázar, the cathedral (the primate church of Spain), and the Zocodover, a central market place.

The market place and streets were empty since it was Christmas Eve when I visited. But the stone pavements looked beautiful. Couldn’t resist clicking a photo!.

I went around the city for roughly half a day. I regret not deciding to stay in Toledo for at least a day or two. The beauty of the place sticks to my eyes. I wish to go back there once again and experience the historic feeling living in one of those old home stays.
