I have enjoyed the holidays in Japan more than a few times now, especially the long night walks around the city, not just Tokyo. Christmas is more for couples than children in this country and far less about Christianity. It’s the most commercialized time of year for small businesses to make big money on Americana and Western holidays. Taking long strolls along long stretches of promenade lit up in beautiful colors of Christmas and very romantic indeed. T
The second-largest city in Japan is Yokohama in Kanagawa Prefecture. Definitely, the best year for me is right around now when buildings are illuminated with decorative lights and Christmas spirit.
This is the time of year when chefs and patisseries are the most creative. Couples can dine at lavish restaurants by world-renowned chefs from France and Italy and experience a mature and sophisticated interpretation of the holiday seasons. In this photo is a warm strawberry soup with cream in the middle made at a French restaurant called Concombre. Here we ate deer for the main and it was lovely.
At home, we enjoy eating seasonal delights such as ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins, Tokyo. The whole thing is one massive ice cream, no actually cake breading.
No Christmas would be complete without Egg Nog! It’s loaded with eggs and milk and super sweet. The way locals celebrate the holidays here is more for entertainment value than spiritual. Expect to see locals dressed up in Santa gear and extremely drunk and belligerent. Some camp out near Kentucky Fried Chicken or line up at bakeries stretching for miles, it seems. It’s a normal workday here for all people. I and the wife spent time at home cooking meals while drinking cheap sparkling wines. We played Bing Crosby Christmas music in a warm kitchen in soft pajamas.
The lights are so festive and beautiful. And the sweet treats, they are look so yummy! The ice cream cake and donuts are too cute! It will be hard to eat them
Hi, @helga19 Thank you so much for your warm comments; they warm the spirits. The ice cream cake was really good but expensive. Happy Holidays to you, too.
@user_not_found Thanks for sharing about Christmas in Tokyo and especially its challenge for the chefs and patisseries.
I was wondering if you’ve heard of my #ChristmasInMyCity 2021 world wide challenge? Thought I’d mention it in case you’d like to participate this year?
Thank you for your nice comments. I just heard of your Christmas post and I will read and participate in it! Again, thank you so much for reading my post.
Thank you for participating. I look forward very much to seeing and reading about Christmas in Tokyo! I’m very excited to have a Japanese take on this special session…
