I have started my first social impact project on Tobacco and Alcohol Addictions in 2010, I thought of sharing one of those case study here. I have used my creative skills to portray the same in illustrated pictures.
Many smokers think they just spend their money and their wish to live life by their choice, very few actually understand the impact of smoking on environment. Each year nearly 800 million trees are destroyed to provide fuel to dry tobacco. Put in another way one tree is destroyed for every 300 cigarettes.
Tobacco epidemic is more than a matter of individual concern. Smoking not only affects the smoker’s health, it also greatly influences the surrounding atmosphere. Smoke and cigarette butts affect the environment the most, resulting into air, water and land pollution.
Tobacco causes destruction of forests by cutting of trees to create a space for tobacco farming and to get wood for curing of tobacco.
Litter from cigarettes fouls the environment as well. Internationally, cigarette filters are the single most collected item in beach clean-ups. Material that leaches out of these filters is toxic to aquatic life.
Big Tobacco is always innovative in their approaches. We have equally designed our campaigns to sync our tobacco control efforts accordingly.
Created multiple innovative and creative posters highlighting how tobacco causes health and environmental damage.
We could bring awareness among communities and tag their homes as Tobacco Free Homes, no guests are allowed to smoke inside the homes.
As tobacco industry’s documents make it clear, this industry acts as a global force. This makes us to cross the borders and serve as a global force to make bigger impact in tobacco control. The below picture shows how we ran the campaign of smoking kills on road every single day.
