To the border and back - how I lost my drone

Today I decided to explore the end of my valley, Val Casies, and after 7 km and 800 m slope i reached the border with Austria.

Obviously i flow my drone, for a quick fly back and an exploration of the border peaks.

That’s what I love mostly in mountaineering: the opportunity to be really ALONE

The mountains in that area are rich of iron, so when the drone was behind one of them, at around 2700 m, i completely lost connection.

I tried for 5 minutes to elevate the antennas, and get back connected, but I was not succesful.

After some minutes the drone was completely out of energy, and started landing… on the other side of the mountain!

So I had to climb that peak, and try to find the drone…

In the image you can also see old Italian barracks for border troops.

I was lucky enough, the drone landed safely on a snow field, on the Austrian side of the mountain!

Back in my hands without any damage!

All the trek required around 4 hours, not so much, including the issue with the drone.

But now you can enjoy this mini virtual tour between two countries (arrows will appear in few hours)

Già già @ErmesT I’m very stubborn, simply I can’t accept loosing something!

Anyway I was lucky that landed properly on snow, the area is not easy to hike!

Hi @Bebistrajo for these shots I’ve used a Google Pixel 2, an iPhone 7 and a DJI Mavic Pro.
I shoot panoramas with drone, making 34 shots to fill the sphere, then I postproduce each single shot, and I stitch them using Kolor Autopano Pro/Giga, and then I add the missing sky.
