Connect Live 2020|What does local guide program mean to me?
Back in the day when I started using Google maps I didn’t know much about its utility & how it will become such an integral part of my life. I remember once I searched for my school on G maps & couldn’t find it as it was never listed. Just to try it out & I pinned my school’s location on the map & saved it. After a few days I got an email from Google that my entry had been verified & accepted. I felt like a little “Columbus” by putting my school “On the Map” & thus began my Tech-mance with Google maps. I started becoming tech-Aladdin & started using GG (Google Genie) finding my way around & helping others finding theirs. The little Dora in me started exploring my surroundings on Google maps and Google Earth & soon I started giving reviews & contributing. . What started as fun soon became a hobby. I came to know more about its utility when I eventually started getting feedback emails from Google. I felt so accomplished to see thousands of people benefiting from my contributions. It was a great opportunity to pay back & being a productive member of the society. I want to see tourism flourish in my country and being a local guide gives me a platform to do my part. Pakistan is number one travel destination for adventure travelers but there are dozens of off grid places with great potential of being future adventure destinations which are not even listed in Google maps and thus are hidden from the world. Through this platform I can give travelers around the globe an access to my country. Posting pictures satiates my love for photography & writing reviews & answering queries makes me connected to worldwide Google family. Having a family member where you wish to travel in a far off land is a comforting thought & that’s what makes me as a local guide to fellow traveler across the globe.
Being a Potter head I fancy Google maps as Marauder’s Map as I have shared real time location of my family and it’s amazing to know where your loved ones are at all times.
Being local guide holds a great impact in my life as I know that if I existed a 100 years ago id have to master astronomy and use compasses and sundials & still I couldn’t be half as productive as I can be as a local guide. My heart humbles in gratitude for the technology, and apps like Google maps are indeed sheer perfection.
As a passionate traveler whenever I make plans Google fairy says #followmetoo to my favorite destinations. To G or not to G is no longer a question for any explorer around the world .
