Some visitors and friends from overseas often asked where they can find something to bring back home while they are in Cambodia. From my experience as locals, I would suggest 6 markets. Find the names below:
- Russian market, known by locals as Toul Tompoung market (Phnom Penh): you can find almost everything visitors ever want to bring home such as paintings, drawings, cheap factory outlets, accessories, handicrafts and handmade products such as sculptures, silks, Khmer musical instruments, miniature Buddhist images, and different kinds of CDs and DVDs if you are interested in movies/films. Food here are clean and tasty. Once you are here, try a variety of dishes!
- Central market, known as Phsar Thom Thmey (Phnom Penh): like the Russian market, you can find other things as well such as jewellery, gems and silver products in this market. The market was built in 1937 and still in use. What attracts visitors is the colonial building in the central of Phnom Penh.
- Bodia Spa Shop (Phnom Penh & Siem Reap): various kinds of natural spa and skin products made in Cambodia. It can be expensive though!
- Artisan D’Angkor shop(Siem Reap): there are a variety of local handmade products that you want to bring home such as silk woven scarves, wood carving and statues made from recycle products. They can be expensive and you can see how they make it.
- Phare circus shop (Siem Reap): very similar to Artisan D’Angkor, handmade products from recycles and other things can be found here. Kompot pepper is also available there. The circus is very famous in Siem Reap for the show. You can find the shop in the entrance!
- Lucky supermarket (Phnom Penh& Siem Reap): not to mention daily products for home-use, go look for a special section of local products such as palm sugar, wine, special Kompot peppers and dried fruits made in cambodia that you can find, from small to big volume.
There can be more, but these markets covered enough of what you really need. Among visitors, Kompot pepper, palm sugar, handicrafts are popular products to bring back home.
