Tips on - how to obtain some fascinating information from the photos on Connect

A few weeks back, @To_paul posted a pic telling doesn’t recognize what the object in the image was.
Though the thing appeared to be a plane, it was a quiz.

I could establish the appropriate answer with the help of Google Maps.
How?
To explain that, the following represents the steps to be used on an Android phone.

“Connect” allows the downloading of photos.
On a photo in any post exert a long press.
A menu as in the screenshot below should emerge.

Select, download image to transfer that to the phone’s folder and launch it through a file manager.

I find the “Files by Google” to be convenient.

Next, click the three dots and choose “Open with Photos”.
The app with a built-in lens would carry out the analysis & provide all the relevant information.

Over here, that is telling me the plane is either Cessna 172 or Cessna 206.
Note - this is not the post mentioned above!

How to use Maps will be lengthy and deserves a separate coverage.

In this case, Google’s algorithm went horribly wrong
Cessna is an American plane
ICP Savannah is an Italian plane
Please do not mislead when posting something on the Internet.
I usually check from at least five sources, and then I publish something.
Thank you very much and I appreciate your work

You said: “Please do not mislead when posting something on the Internet.”
I have no intention to do so and I am not sure if you intended to imply that I am guilty of such.

Please note that I am Dutch so I like direct feedback. Just tell me when and where you think I am wrong and will be happy.

Let’s guide and be guided.

In the first comment I wrote in the post it is clear that the Google lens was wrong.

I guess you read only what the author @C_T wrote, not my comment.
The author @C_T took a picture of the plane added by me, and explained something in the current post.

It’s your job what software you love
You can be who you want
Not my problem
I treat all people the same way,
You told me you were Dutch @JeroenM

But you liked like a post that contains serious mistakes that may mislead other users.

I think the author @C_T to change the post urgently or make it clear that it is a mistake to identify the plane from the Google lens software
The aircraft is not manufactured by Cessna Aircraft Company of the U.S.
The aircraft is manufactured by ICP srl a company from Italy

I am very happy and appreciate when someone in the forum also helps
explain well in certain situations.

Hello @To_paul

I am not announcing anything about the correctness of the results. I explained only the capabilities.

I am aware, AI can go wrong and has to be verified through multiple sources.

I couldn’t display the full page of results. However, there were many further links in that to refine the search.

Here are some further results up to the bottom of the page and beyond that, the feature is expecting feedback where I mentioned the correct model!

Hello @C_T

I understand you. but I don’t think the Italian company that makes the plane would be happy to see their plane described as a Cessna.
On this occasion I want to announce that Google lens describes my cat puppies as big dogs, I do not joke at all.
I always appreciated your work,
I wish you success

Hello @C_T

I rarely use Google Lens,
thanks for the explanations

Hello @To_paul

I cropped the image further down.

Now one of the results does include the model mentioned by you.

Nevertheless, when we look at a photo the obvious questions which come to our minds are

Where was that shot?

Which camera was used?

What was the setting?

And another relevant question- is that an original work?

Google lens doesn’t answer most of these except the last one to some extent. But, there are other means to do that.

Hello @C_T

I am only interested in how much has been involved in the beautification of a photo.

Hi @C_T ,

Thanks for sharing some tricks related to Google lens. Very valuable.

From the heading I was expecting some tricks on how to extract Metadata from a picture file.

Some of the posts on this thread has mentioned a wish to know where the picture was taken. That piece of information is actually available if the camera was able to add the GPS coordinates when the picture was taken. In Google Photos you just press the 3 dots to open the detailed view as seen below.

At the bottom you find the GPS coordinates that determines where the pin is shown on the map. Please note that that only 3 digits are available after the comma. The indictates slightly lower precision than we normally use.

Hope this is helpful for other local guides reading this thread.

Cheers

Hello @C_T

since the name of the Savannah plane also appeared correct I think the aviation incident was solved

Hello @MortenCopenhagen

A photo download on the phone Strips-off the metadata. Even the resultant file size is also much smaller.

Otherwise, Photos is able to show the Exif data.

Thanks @C_T ,

I was not aware the meta/exif data gets stripped while up- or downloading to/from Localguidesconnect.com.

Thanks for the clarification.

However, that doesn’t happen on a desktop @MortenCopenhagen !
