The most fun I had in Bali had been on a scooter and enjoying the freedom of exploring.
Quick Tips:
- Longer periods of rental will be cheaper. In Bali the price will range from 70 000 to 120 000 rupees a day. (Drop the 3 zeros from the Rupees and you’ll have the ZAR value?)
:
In Thailand for a 3 week period I paid 100Baht a day.
: - Always check your bike for damage, take a video of it and test drive to check for faulty brakes etc.
: - Don’t be a nana, wear a helmet or the cops will pull you over and ask for a full international motorcycle licence. In smaller towns like Nusa Penida or Canggu you can get away without wearing one like the locals do (or don’t in this case)
: - Do not keep all of your cash in one place in case, you do get pulled over and fined (500 000 rupees or 500 baht) you’ll pay whatever you have on you at that time.
: - Attempting to scoot to Pai in Thailand (MUST do) or in Nusa Penida, Bali? DO IT. Its totally doable, so many blogs advised against it but if your comfortable on a scooter you’ll love it.
: - Keep an eye out for dogs, chickens and gravel.
The roads are busy and filled with all kinds of tuk tuks etc. but everyone respects each other.

7.Filling up is cheap cheap and can be done from locals selling gas on the side of the road, a petrol station or a vending machine type of .
:
8.Locals will move your scooter to a different spot or just sit chilling on it. We had a little panic when we thought we had lost ours because this guy was sitting on it like he owned it. ??.
: - Tie your key on a piece of string to remind yourself to take it out of the ignition and to not lose it. Again, multiple mini heart attacks because of this. However, no one stole anything, even with the scooter key and my cellphone up for grabs.
