Some time ago I suggested a change to Google Maps and it seems it has been implemented which makes me really happy. I wish I’d known before I uploaded my latest photos though… I asked for the caption in Maps to be taken from the EXIF Caption field of the photo.
Actually I didn’t see it on my Maps. Maybe I need to update it first.
I’m using mobile phone to capture a photo and upload it to Maps. And I cannot add caption on my exif metadata. So I’m curious what’s the caption that will shown up automatically
Congrats @PaulPavlinovich is a great update to people who are expert on photography, is not my case, I’m not sure if I understand correctly the meaning of this future…
@SilvyC all photos have metadata associated with them, it is data about the photo that is saved in the same file that holds the photo, things like the camera type, what the settings were, and with some camera copyright settings and keywords can be added. Normally the metadata is adjusted when you load the images into your library tool before exporting.
@PaulPavlinovich You say this feature only works on the desktop version of Maps. I wonder what would happen if I added a caption in the IrfanView IPTC info. section (Yes, I’m a Windows user)? Would it be automatically picked up and shown against my Reviews pix? I only do Maps work on my Samsung Galaxy TabA tablet 2017 model.
Does this mean that you need to write your caption on the camera device and if so where do get access to the metadata on a cellphone @PaulPavlinovich ? Also, do you know if you have access to the metadata of photos uploaded onto Google Photos? As you know I’ve been trying to get photo captions on Maps by using the description field in Google Photos which worked for some time but now as I wrote yet again, in Missing Photo Captions on Maps, a lost opportunity, it appears to have stopped working
This only happened when uploading from the PC @AdamGT it doesn’t apply to phone and I get the impression that perhaps its a bug since I’ve been asked about it recently by a Googler in how to reproduce it.
