Timeline upgrades

Hi All,

3 days ago Google announced changes to our Timeline.

Please see

Updates to Location History and new controls coming soon to Maps

The new features will give us more control over how Google Maps is tracking our movements and where this data is stored. I think having timeline data stored locally will be safer. We can backup this data to the cloud. I just hope that this change will also increase the precision of the timeline with more measurements.

These changes will gradually roll out through the next year on Android and iOS, and you’ll receive a notification when this update comes to your account.

All the best

Morten

Thanks for the Update @MortenCopenhagen . I was considering a Blue Dot post, but it seems to be covered pretty well in the article you linked.

I’m curious about what will happen to our contribution data once this happens. I have my location history set to “All Eternity,” and once made a change to delete anything past 3 years. The counter for my ‘Answers’ dropped significantly. I did not lose points, but the tracking was lost. Should we expect that Google will retain our contributions forever while we limit our location data?

Hi @JustJake

None of our contributions are linked to the timeline except answers to questions from Maps users.

So I doubt there will be much of a problem.

Cheers

I just wish they’d add a search function.

Just got the new changes rolled out to my phone yesterday.

Now I can’t perform the following -

  1. update the timeline on my desktop (in browser).
  2. snap the paths followed to the roads (in timeline - on the map).
  3. view a place and see when I had visited it in the past.

Does anyone else is also noticing these missing functionality items?
