Through the Arch of Time – Bengaluru’s KR Market Clock Tower

KR Market, also known as Krishnarajendra Market, is one of the oldest and busiest markets in Bengaluru. It was built in the 1920s and named after Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV. Before that, this area was used as a battlefield during the Anglo-Mysore Wars in the 18th century. Later, it became a central place for trade, especially flowers, fruits, and spices.

At the main entrance, you’ll see a beautiful red building with a clock tower on top. This clock has been ticking for nearly 100 years and still works today! The building shows a mix of Indian and British-style architecture. Even with all the busy market sounds and people, the clock reminds us of the time that has passed and the stories this place holds.

KR Market is not just a shopping place - it’s a living part of Bengaluru’s history.

This is my very first clock tower post, and I couldn’t have picked a more iconic one to begin with.
@TusharSuradkar this historic structure would make a great addition to your clock tower collection. I hope it finds a place in your series!

The clock tower over an entrance gate within a busy market is unique @saidevadiga

Wonderful photo :+1:

I have visited the KR Market several times, but never noticed or knew about it.
Thanks for sharing the Google Maps link. Let’s go there again in September :handshake:

@TusharSuradkar Thanks! Glad you liked it. This is actually the main entrance to KR Market—easy to miss with all the crowd and activity.
