Three years ago, I uploaded a few photos and wrote a handful of reviews on Google Maps without giving much thought to where the journey would lead. Like many Local Guides, I simply wanted to share experiences, help fellow travellers, and contribute in a small way to a platform that millions rely on every day.
Today, I am delighted to share a milestone that feels both exciting and humbling—my contributions on Google Maps have crossed 50 million views in just three years.
When I first saw the number, I had to look at it twice. Fifty million is a figure that is difficult to comprehend. It represents people searching for a place to eat, planning a holiday, finding a railway station, exploring a museum, discovering a hidden gem, or simply looking for information before stepping out of their homes. The thought that something I shared may have helped even a small fraction of those people is what makes this milestone truly meaningful.
Of these 50 million views, approximately 46 million views came from 17,800 photographs, while 2.5 million views came from more than 1,000 reviews. The remaining views were generated through other contributions on the platform. While the numbers are encouraging, they tell only part of the story.
What fascinates me most is the incredible diversity of content that people have found useful. According to Google, some of my most-viewed and most-recognized topics include New Delhi, chutney, historical landmarks, samosas, Dubai, sculptures, museums, art, Delhi, and photography. Looking at that list made me smile because it perfectly reflects my own interests—travelling, exploring heritage, documenting culture, discovering local food, and sharing stories through photographs.
Another encouraging recognition has been being placed among the Top 10% reviewers in four categories: Cafés, Eateries, Museums and Parks & Gardens. As someone who enjoys exploring both bustling cities and quiet cultural spaces, these categories resonate deeply with my personal passions.
Behind every photograph is a journey, a memory, and often a few extra minutes spent finding the right angle. Behind every review is an experience that I felt was worth sharing so that others could make better-informed decisions. Whether it was a bustling street-food stall in Amritsar, a heritage railway location in Switzerland, a tea estate in Munnar, a museum in Venice, a monument in Florence, a neighbourhood café in New York, or a small family-run business in Delhi, every contribution was made with the intention of being useful.
What I value most, however, is the community that has accompanied me on this journey.
Many of you have consistently taken the time to read my posts, view my photographs, offer suggestions, point out areas for improvement, and encourage me to continue contributing. Your feedback has helped me become a better storyteller, a better reviewer, and a more thoughtful contributor. Every comment, every like, every word of encouragement has played a role in reaching this milestone.
This achievement, therefore, does not feel like an individual accomplishment. It feels like a shared celebration. It belongs not only to me but also to the friends, fellow Local Guides, travellers, and community members who have supported me along the way.
As I look back on these three years, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude. And as I look ahead, I remain as excited as ever to continue exploring new places, sharing authentic experiences, and contributing content that helps others discover the world around them.
